Default New with a question

I have eating a low-carb, high-protein diet since August of '00. I started a exercise program in November '00. I have lost a total of 35 pounds (210 to 175). Is wife is also on a similar eating and exercise plan. While our kids get plenty of exercise, they eat an enormous amount of carbs compared to my wife and I.

My question....Has there been any research or publications concerning a low-carb, high-protein eating plan for kids and teenagers? Are there any negatives?

One of our kids, 13 year old daughter, was diagnosed with Type I diabetes 1 year ago. This prompted all of my research. What do we know?

Hi drmaddox, welcome aboard.

I'm not aware of research on low-carb for kids, except for one for children with epilepsy, as they seem to benefit for low-carbing and hostiptals actually put them on such diet (Check our Studies section).

I think the Carbo Addicts program have a special book for children's low-carb diet, you might want to look at.

Congrats to you on the loss, and keep us posted.

Wa'il
