Default help

I am new to low carb eating and must be doing something wrong. I am following the Adkins diet and eating meats, cheese, eggs, nuts and salads. I started last Tuesday and lost 2 lbs. by Saturday but today (Monday) I was up 3 lbs. What gives? Is it water weight from the salty nuts and cheese? Anybody help me? Julie

Hi Julie,

Welcome!!

I'm fairly new to this myself, so I'm not an expert, but I echo Stina, it's a good idea to keep a food journal. Write down exactly how many carbs you eat, how much protein etc. Depending on what kind of cheese, nuts, salad dressings, etc. the carbs can add up. When I was just 'estimating' it, I didn't lose as much as I am now, with strict records. Posting in the BootCamp section has helped me tremendously. Also another possibility is maybe you're not eating enough? Have to eat plenty of high-quality protein to boost your metabolism and fuel your fat-burning machine. Or maybe you've lost 2 lbs fat, but gained 3 pounds muscle. That's fine, because they'll end up helping you to burn more fat in the long run. I'd also jump in and tell you to go by how you feel, and how your clothes fit, not by what the scale says, but I can't because I'm guilty of weighing everyday, so maybe someone else will be able to come give you that advice. But stick to it and don't get discouraged. If you follow it dilligently, you will lose fat steadily. Keep us posted on your progress,
Jeanette

Hi Julie,

Wecome to the forum!

Post what you've been eating and drinking. We can probably give you some advice.

Are you on Atkins induction? Have you read the Atkins book? Nuts are a no-no, and can remain a no-no, even for those who are long term low-carbers. Processed meats (if that's what you're eating) may have more carbs in them then you think. LC teaches you to be a compulsive label reader

It does take a while to figure all of this low-carbing stuff out. You're always learning as you go, which is part of the fun!

Karen

Default meals??

I have been doing the adkins for one week and haven't seen any results but not giving up I know it takes time. I'm curious as to what a normal day on the program would be as far as eating and how many calories can we have per day? Any info on this would help thanks Trish

Unhappy Too many carbs

I think I know what I was doing......eating too many nuts and cheese. I have since got my scale out and reread Adkins induction diet and realinzed I was eating too many carbs. I started writing down every single carb and weighing my cheese. The 3 lbs I gained over the weekend, I lost on Monday. So yea for me. Hopefully I'm on the right track now. I hate to give up the nuts but for now it is the only way.

Hi Trish,

Welcome to the forum!

A normal day of eating varies from person to person. Look at the Journal section of the forum to see what other people are eating.

Have you read the Atkins book from cover to cover - especially the chapter on induction?

With low-carbing, you don't have to worry about calorie restriction, if that is what you're asking. Atkins states that you are on a qualitative, not quantitative diet.

Hi Julie,

Near to the top of this page you will see a red bar. The last word on the right side is Forums. Click it, and when the page comes up, scroll down until you see My Journal/Bootcamp. Click and the page with everyone's Journal will open. You can then read everyone's journal. When you're finished, go back to the red bar and click Tips. Read everything there. After that, read all the rest of the links in the red bar. You will be very well educated in low-carbing if you do!

Karen
