Default LC veggies

Now why would they remove items between CAD and CALP? That's a little confusing. If I look at their gram counter book, zucchini is only a *little* higher in carbs per serving then other green leafy (allowed) veggies. Zucchini has 8 carbs. But then I look at Brussels sprouts - they have 13 carbs but they *are* allowed on CALP.

I don't get it. Am I missing something? I have been on CAD but I made the assumption that the food lists were the same so I have been using the CALP food list (since my sister has my CAD book). I guess I shouldn't have assumed.

I think... LOL... that CALP is an *updated* version of CAD... am I correct in this thinking? Anyway, maybe the GREEN veggies are just plain better for us than the yellow or light colored squashes... and so the Hellers want us to concentrate on the geen veggies more???? I'd say if it works on CAD, it would work on CALP as well, again because they are the same plan, only worded slightly differantly? IMHO...

Question Really Confused

Brussel sprouts are not allowed on CAD but are on CALP.

The idea I get from reading the Hellers' books is that they have always had a strong empiric component to their practice, w/ lots of contact w/ real people. My take on this is that they have observed that some foods that would appear to be CM actually behave in vivo as RM.

The differences between the first and second books I put down to more experience w/ their patients.

I've never read CALP, and have been following CAD. I've been eating my summer squashes and I agree with linda's common sense approach. If it looks like a duck and sounds like a duck and there's less carbs on your pickup truck etc....

All of this debate about zucchini, brussell sprouts, and squash of any kind makes me glad that I don't eat any of them, so the question never comes up

The only veggie that I like which the Hellers reserve for RMs is broccoli - but since I usually eat that at dinner, it's not much of a problem either.

Slimmin, you are too funny! The debate continues!

In CALP, broccoli is allowed for CM.

Happy LC'ing!

Default hmmm... I'm learning so many new things

I just got Zuleika's cheat sheet, and... wow....I can have TURNIP??????????? at CM's, I mean. I don't have my book here at work with me, but that is amazing to me. I always thought turnip was a starchy vegetable.

I really love turnip, and the fact that I do... makes me think it might not be the perfect choice for me... not on a regular basis, at least.

Vel... I know what you mean, turnip is a root veggie and I always thought root veggies were starchy... I too like turnips and would be a good choice for me once in awhile...

OK... what cheat-sheet?

Smile Zuleikaa was nice enough

to send me a copy to my work email of a cheat sheet that she herself has made up for CAD/CALP. It has some general instructions for the plans, and a list of the foods that are allowed on CM meals. It is very nice of her to make this available.

I am going to double check that the turnip thing isn't just a typo, since turnip GREENS are listed on the next line. So, don't get too excited yet )

Turnips are not allowed on CALP, and I didn't *think* they were allowed on CAD. Hopefully someone will double check that.

I don't like turnips much anyway so it's not a big deal for me, but I think it's important to know for sure. It is listed in the gram counter book with only 8 carbs but it is also listed as a trigger food.

Maybe we should have a whole different thread for this discussion? It seems there is a lot of confusion, and many differences between the two plans.

Geez I didn't know nuts were not allowed! I bought this hugh can and have been picking at them because I didn't think I ate enough carbs during a few CM's. I bought the can when I was on Atkins. Now I know why I just keep bouncing between the same three pounds all week.
