Smile Coconut Oil - Plain?

Just curious - anyone out there eat their coconut oil plain? Straight off the spoon it all it's melt-in-your-mouth glory?

If so was it something you liked right away or something to get used to?

I love the taste of it straight off the spoon, however the solid to complete liquid throws me off a bit.

Thoughts?

I've never let it melt all the way; I just swallow it with water like a pill. I'm not quite there yet...

I love coconut oil, but I can't eat it straight off the spoon. It makes me gag.

I'll fry an egg in it, but haven't jumped on the "off the spoon" bandwagon. A mouthful of oil is a tough one for me to get down.

I've just recently begun doing this! I adore the taste of coconut oil, and straight off the spoon is like a real "sweet treat".

Hi Huny

It took 3 weeks before you could get me to wrap my brain around putting a tbsp of coconut oil in my tea. Putting a spoonful directly into my mouth? Maybe in a year or ten. Depends on how CONVINCING you are...

Okay, I'm really "gaggy" with textures. I tried off the spoon today, and my scrambled eggs nearly came back up. (sorry for the visual).

What are other ways people have found to ingest it? In a shake? just frying food in it? (wouldn't get as much then, some would be lost in the pan).

I normally melt it in my tea. I have 2-3 cups of tea to get it all in though. I have used it in a protein shake, and that was fine. The leftovers went in the fridge and the coconut oil solidified again, so that was weird - not necesarily bad, just wasn't expecting a large chunk of coconut oil when I took a sip.

I love the taste of it, and it's find in the solid state, but I find that it doesn't stay solid long enough for it to travel to my throat, so I'm not quite to eating it straight off the spoon. Yet.

Just thinking with summer coming up I won't always want a few cups of hot tea...

Use it to make Chocolate Coconut Bark candy. There are recipes in the Sweet Treats section of our Kitchen forum. If you're on Induction, be careful to choose a recipe that doesn't call for ingredients like nuts.

I eat my coconut oil straight off the spoon, but in liquid form not solid. I couldn't do it if it were solid. I have been taking it for 7 years now so I have definitely gotten used to it!! And it does take a while to get used to it. No, it's not a sweet treat either. I take it as I do my other supplements! I do it by the spoon to assure that I get the whole amount I want daily--no more pouring off the grease from my plate into my mouth!! And if you eat the bark, it adds calories to your day. Much easier to just chug it down, imho.

The only way I can get it down is in bark, and i'm looking forward to seeing other ideas. I fried eggs in it, and the eggs smelled like coconut, and the unexpected combination was nauseating for me.

Coconut milk has the same good stuff in it as coconut oil as far as I know, just not so overwhelmingly. I use coconut milk powder in low-carb mocha, and I'll probably experiment with it in cooking.

I agree Melasana. I am very sensitive to tastes and if the eggs tasted wierd I wouldn't be able to stomach them. I made the bark today and added orange extract, it was okay but I'm not going to say it was great. At least I can get it down tho.

Does coconut milk have any carbs?

8foldpath, 1 TBS of coconut milk powder has 1g carbs, and it's all dietary fiber.
