Question Women 65+, What is this expericence like for you

Hi, it seems to me that when I tried Atkins a million years ago, the weight just dropped off, and because I got cocky and started to eat the old way, I gained a lot of weight.

And now the weight is all over my body, but esp around my torso, the prime area for health problems. So here I am at Atkins' door again, but this time it's like wrestling an alligator: not easy. Mystifying. Just plain hard.

I have started exercising and cut out a lot of salt. I'm just curious to see if other women over 65 have actually found this LC way of life to produce weight loss and if it was easy or hard for them. Also, if it is easy, what book(s) are you using?

I have always noticed that for men vs women, men lose a lot more, no question. So my question is for women. Thanks all.

If it helps, I'm 60 and doing well. Of course, I've had to take all cheese and nuts (until today) out of my diet and reduce how much I eat but I am really enjoying it. We have a garden and I eat mostly vegetables with some meat and plus one or two cups of coffee with a total of 2 tbs cream for the day. I also drink my water.

I'm 62 and doing okay, although I do have to watch calories and carbs both, because I don't get much exercise.

Default Hello

Hello,
This is my first post. Like the 65 year old lady who posted earlier I used to be able to lose weight in a "wink" and ate pretty much what I wanted. At a certain period in my life (after 50) I found the pounds came on easily but left very slowly and I have had problems sticking with my food plans long enough to lose the 30 pounds I need to see go. I started, once again, the Atkins diet 6 days ago and so far so good. Five pounds have left and I am looking forward to waving bye bye to more.... I still have that original 30 pounds to lose however. Anybody have any suggestions on how to stay on the diet... perhaps snack tips etc. I have two men in the house to feed and it is difficult to watch them pig out on foods I love but can't have right now.

When I first started back on I planned for foods that I really enjoyed and I also made sure that I ate before I got too hungry. After a while it became a pattern. DH loves potatoes as do I so he fixes his own and I don't watch him eat. We both have discovered "fauxtatoes" Creamed cauliflower which we both like.

Years ago when I first realized that there were foods I just couldn't eat (i.e. donuts, hamburgers) I explained to him why and asked that he not bring theses home, which he doesn't to this day. If the men in your life love you they will want to work with you to help you become a healthier you!

I am 62 and just started Atkins so I have not lost all my weight yet to know what it will do to my body. I to carry most my weight in my stomach area and my stomach droops now as it is. I know I will look like a deflated balloon when I do lose my weight but I guess it will be worth it.

I'm 63, and still new at this, a couple of weeks. Yes, it's harder with age. We get less exercise, we DO less exercise. I carry most of the extra weight around my middle too. I lose my breath when I bend over, or when I walk across the back yard. This too shall pass.

Ann,

I just fix foods that are low carb. If someone else wants to have a high-carb item, then they have to fix it themselves.
