Default Flax Bread

Flaxbread! Delicious! Quick! you wont believe your not cheating!
1 tbspoon ground flax
1 tbspoon butter melted
1 egg
1/4 tsp baking pwdr
cinnimon/splenda to taste ( i also add a spritz of pumpkin spice)
whisk and let sit 1 minute
microwave on high 2 minutes

SO GOOD and tastes LIKE REAL BREAD!!!!! i cannot tell you guys how awesome this is, and a great way to get your flax in. sometimes i add a 0 carb protein powder in too, to get some added protein. i spread a lil butter on it afterwards too, it tastes like warm toast/english muffin.

the flax (1 tbsp) is i think 2 net carbs, 0 for baking pwdr, 0 for the egg, 0 for spice, and depending on your protein pwdr, 0-1. the only negligable carb really is the flax (remember to subtract dietary fiber)

Well i'm on induction and it hasnt stalled me...but for me its going slow cause i only have 15 pounds to lose. but dr atkins says in his book we can have a few tbspoons of flax a day, and this is only one. thats the only "questionable" thing for induction...the rest is all legal, so i think its fine! enjoy!!!!!

Flaxseed has .76 carb per tablespoon. One large egg has .7 carb. And if it's powdered Splenda it has carbs too, for the filler.

I would guess about 3 carbs. Sounds good, I am going to try it.

PS, that's net carbs (- the fiber)

Yup. Lots of flax seeds here - only we call it "linseeds."

Flax is wonderful stuff!

Elkay, you can buy flax meal in the health food section of most Australian supermarkets. I get mine in Woolworths. You (and all other flax bread lovers) may also want to check out this thread in the Aus/NZ forum. It makes a delicious oven-baked flax bread. Not quite as quick, simple and convenient as the single-serve microwave one that AudreyB posted, but worth the little bit of extra effort to make a whole loaf.

I make a loaf of this every fortnight or so, I don't eat a lot of it and it keeps very well in the fridge for that whole time. I also froze and posted a loaf to my Mum interstate and she loved it!

steveFL, flax is a seed and on Atkins you are not supposed to have any nuts or seeds during the first two weeks of induction. However, you can add nuts and seeds carefully after your first two weeks, even if you stay on induction. I think a lot of people do fine with flax even during their first two weeks but that's not strict Atkins.

The other thing to remember is that those first two weeks are partly about breaking old habits and mentally adjusting to a new WOE so staying away from something you brain thinks of as "bread" might be a good idea. You want to move away from a "toast and sandwiches" mentality, after all. However, if you feel you're beyond the habit-breaking stage and you don't think flax bread will be a trigger for you, it is a really healthy, really yummy thing to have!

Em

It's available in supermarkets here.
My thoughts on the recipe? It sounds great, but I personally can't stand the taste of flax/linseeds, so won't be trying it. A lot of people enjoy porridge made with linseeds, but I'm afraid I have to admit it makes me gag. That's just me and my weird taste buds though.
