Hi there (btw, what is your name? )

Yes, aspartame does make some people stall, but I would make two comments in your case.

Firstly, you are very near your goal and weight loss slows right down towards the end, making it difficult to shift the last few pounds - thus it may not be the aspartame, but just your body resisting!

Secondly, why are you still eating at induction levels when you are so near to goal? You should really have been eating more veggies as carbs for some time - it's not good for the body to stay on induction so long. You might also find that when you come off induction you will regain quickly. That's what OWL (ongoing weight loss) is all about - you slowly add more carbs into your diet whilst you are losing so that you can find your own healthy carb level. Here is a good explanation page on the Atkins website:

Aspartame is a potential cancer agent which is one reason people avoid it but since we don't have Splenda-sweetened drinks in the UK (although daVinci syrups with sparkling mineral water are OK), I have been drinking some Aspartame-sweetened drinks throught my diet. It doesn't seem to have caused me any problems.

As a general sweetener I think you'd be better off with saccharine (hermesitas etc) or splenda. I don't avoid aspartame as I still have it in soft drinks and squash (no choice) but I wouldn't add to the dose by deliberatly putting it in tea or coffee.

I think this has little to do with your lack of weight loss however. maybe your body is happy at its present weight. Is the last 2 lbs worth it? You should be thinking of pre-maintainance and maintainace now. You've got to work out ways to be happy with a low carb way of eating for the rest of your life now or it'll just all come back.

hi....thanks for the info....
by the way my names faz and the reason im on induction is because 5 days ago i badly cheated so now im fearing that im going to cheat this weekend because im going to a wedding in b'ham and normally they serve roast chicken......I JUST HOPE THEY DO

by the way, i jus brought splenda today...£2.18

and RCFletcher yeah your right about the last 2 pounds, its because im scared that if i add carbs i will gain instead of losing because i hav increased carbs a few times and i gained 1 pound or stalled, this was a while ago.
