They have something similar to that at Wal-Mart. It is with the ice cream makers, and it's not as expensive as that one.

I tried this today, and it was good! I was not expecting to like it, so I was pleasantly surprised. Next time, I'm trying chocolate.

"Ziploc" Vanilla Ice Cream

1 tablespoon artificial sweetener
1/2 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1/2 cup Heavy Cream
6 tablespoons Table Salt
3 cups Ice
1 Sandwich Sized Ziploc Bag
1 Gallon Sized Ziploc Bag

No Ice Cream Maker Needed. It
really works, trust me!!

In the sandwich sized ziploc,
combine the sugar substitute,
vanilla extract and heavy cream. Seal the
bag and shake lightly to mix ingredients.
In the gallon sized ziploc bag, add 3
cups of ice (or fill half the bag
with ice)and add 6 tablespoons of
table salt.

Place the sealed sandwich sized bag
into the gallon bag and seal the
gallon bag. Shake the entire
contents for at least 4 minutes
(shake longer for harder ice cream).
Once desired hardness has been
achieved, remove smaller baggie and
rinse throughly with cold water (if
you miss this step, you may wind up with
salty ice cream!)

Recipe makes about a 1/2 cup of ice cream.
I have doubled the recipe and it
still works well. I am also sure that
you can add additional ingredients
(cocoa powder, etc) to create different
flavors of ice cream.

I tried this tonight and it was very good! I don't think I can justify trashing 2 zip-bags to do it very often, but I was quite impressed with the texture and the taste!

You can wash the bags in warm soapy water and reuse them.

I only wash and reuse bags that had something "dry" in them.

I cannot get a greasy bag (like one that had heavy cream in it) clean enough to feel good about reusing. I have too much to do around here as it is...

Next time, I'm going to try a small tuppeware inside a larger tupperware and see if it works. Then both can go into the dishwasher.

Oh and I forgot to say that I used rock salt and I used a lot more than 6 T. It turned out perfectly.

I would think the Tupperware would work in place of the outer bag. We used to do this at Girl Scout camp and we'd use an empty coffee can for the outer container.

Actually, no reason the outer bag couldn't be reused many times without anything more than a rinse as long as you only use it for this purpose.

Well, I tried it today with the 2 tupperwares. Nothing happened for a very long time using table salt. When I added rock salt, it firmed up very quickly, but only on the edges of the containers. It was rock hard there and I had to literally scrape it off the sides. Liquid in the middle. I mixed it together and ate it quickly. Not a good turnout, I'm afraid. I guess the zip-lock is the best way. I like the idea of dedicating a gallon zip-lock to the salt.
