Default Deciphering Medical Test Results???

Can anyone help me figure out what my lab results mean? The numbers I have don't seem to jive with what I have seen other people state. For example, my LDL is 2.64 and my HDL is 1.23. CLDL is 0.45. When I got the results back my doctor said everything was absolutely fine but I was just curious as to why my numers are so different. I'm in Canada in case that has something to do with it.

Hi Suzan,

In Canada (and pretty much everywhere except the US of A), the results are in mmol/litre. In the US they are in mg/dL.

To convert your mmol/L to mg/dL, divide by 0.0259. Then they'll seem more like what you've seen around here.

Or to convert mg/dL to mmol/L, muliply by 0.0259.

And yes, your doctor is right, your numbers are just fine.

Cheers.

Rosebud

Default THANK YOU !!

Thanks very much for answering so quickly. I figured it had to be something to do with the metric system but I just didn't know what figures to use. I searched and searched all over the net last night but no luck.

Much appreciated.

Suzan
