The day is starting out cold, but will improve by noon.
My mother (93 years old) went into a nursing home in Westminster, Colorado, on Friday.
Very hard on her (and me emotionally).
Not what we wanted, but necessary.
I lost 10 pounds the last 2 weeks.
Not how I wanted to lose it, but will try to keep it off and finally get on the downhill track.
Think I was keeping carbs too low.
Not sleeping at night, restless and anxious.
What I did eat was potatoes.
Either baked or potato skins both loaded up.
It was all I could manage to think would taste good.
I did have some eggs and bacon like meals.
Just would take a couple bites and done.
Haven't had as much heartburn, the grease from the eggs, bacon, sausage, etc. that I was using to stay low carb.
Maybe so.
So this is the middle of the week.
Usually the middle of the week says to be failure.
You weren't "good" Sunday, Monday, Tuesday.
Might as well take off the rest of the week too.
Start again on Monday.
I'm going to stick with potatoes that are soothing my stomach.
Pepsi is not on my food list anymore.
It is only a medication for extra low blood sugar when I need a quick jolt to get to the brain, then only 2-4 ounces.
It is not part of my everyday life after 45 years, before that it was Dr. Pepper.
So, hump day, and a day to keep going forwards.
How about the rest of you.
Is it getting easier or more of a struggle?

Hi. New to the forum but this post was especially meaningful. I remember when I realized my mom's physical needs were more than I could handle alone. It was a very emotional time. People don't always understand the guilt and emotional turmoil a caregiver goes through at a time like this. I hope all goes well with you and your mom. I started Atkins a few days ago and hoping for success. Good luck on your journey as well. Haven't really started the struggle yet, but a low carb diet is definitely a change for this old calorie counter.

My UTI is getting all better. Thank God for a doc that loves and understands me. I have a week's worth of medicine to take altogether.
I went to the gym yesterday but not today. Not many of us slept well because of the storm and the warnings. Where I live we received 4" of blessed raindrops and we could use lots more. Our fish pond filled up andbit was 3 ft. low but now it's normal level. Take care, myrt

Hope you come by often Idonna.
Our group grows and lessens, then grows again.
I love this group.
Our needs are different than the younger ladies and gentlemen on this forum.
Myrt, I've always thought you had the very best of doctors.
A UTI is nothing to be messed with and so glad you got what you needed to get rid of it.
I was nervous for the hill country, thinking of mud slides.
It is raining here, has been for a couple days.
Comes and goes.
Tonight and tomorrow we are suppose to get a lot more.
Wednesday will rain, not certain just how much.
Then sunshine.
Washing machine quit working.
I've managed to rescue the clothes that were in it and they are now dry.
Bacon and eggs.
Hope everyone enjoys the day.

Default Finding it hard to get "enough" carbs

N2L you mentioned, after having lost 10 lbs., you thought you went to low on carbs. I'm having a hard time meeting the 20 carb a day recommendation. It's just too much food for me. Because I'm in induction on Atkins the food list is very restrictive so I don't know what carbs to use to raise my count closer to 18 or 20. Any of you have recommendations? Thanks. idonna

idonna, I do not have a problem meeting the 20 carbs.
It is amazing the carbs that are hidden in food.
I eat a lot of salads and grilled chicken or salmon.
Here and there I'll have a baked potato or potato skins.
I like cheese and bacon, plus sour cream.
I haven't cooked meals all summer and now fall.
I use my vegetables for my carbs.

Happy Thanksgiving. We had ours last night because some of the kids had to be on the road today. Quite a crowd as all the kids made it in...5 kids, 5 spouses, 6 grands, memaw, mother-in-law and husband and I made 20. We are not a quiet group when we get together, but it's always fun.

Carb wise I did pretty good although I did allow myself dressing with a bit of gravy and a small serving of dessert. Surprisingly I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would and after my traditional day after turkey sandwich today, I'm ready to get back to it.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

A young friend of mine is one of a dozen kids in a family that's from Palestine, via Central America: she was born in Central America.

Her parents, her sibs and her, along with various spouses and kids AND her mom's brother and his family, 45, all together, are having Thanksgiving at her brother's condo. They have a big party room there, where there will be room for everyone.

She's bringing 3 pecan pies, one pumpkin pie, a giant tray of mac and cheese, and a small turkey. All together, they'll have about 60 or 70 lbs of turkey.

To me, THIS is Thanksgiving: people from various cultures and religions, joining their own traditions with American traditions to celebrate family, love and abundance.

Made my own first low carb pumpkin pie. Since I'm strictly grain free, no stuffing or gravy for me. Or sandwiches. But I can use shirataki noodles for turkey tetrazzini with the leftovers, so that makes me happy!

Before we moved from Colorado I would have my family for all the holidays.
There were 26 of them who would come to eat and enjoy each other.
Those days are long over.
Today I went to Cracker Barrel and ate their Thanksgiving plate, then brought a takeout plate for DH who had wanted to stay home.
I didn't eat the dressing, but did eat the sweet potato.

We had a potluck dinner in the club house with about 75 attending. There were people from several different states represented. Some of them are on the way to another destination for the winter and some of them are staying here until Spring.
I cut the desserts early on and afterwards I played like a bus boy for awhile when we were done eating. A good time was had by all but I ate too much. I have gone swimming every day for several days. myrt

Hopefully the weather has been nice where you are.
I'm starting to feel the benefits of being close to ocean and the absence of pollution.
Sat outside for a couple .hours today.
It was overcast and warm.
Enjoying my family.

It is strange seen all that snow on tv when I am getting to the pool at 6:30 am in my Summerdress, It was 70* in the morning and almost 80* in the afternoon here for the last week. I don't complain at all and our forecast say that we will loose 10 to 15 * on Saturday.
