I don't cheat at all. Quite frankly, when I decided to go low carb I decided to completely change my eating habits/patterns etc. The "one taste" theory is what got me fat in the first place. Do I feel deprived? NO. it is my state of mind that has changed. When I look in the mirror and I see the confidence I have gotten, it is worth not having that bag of chips or taste of pie.

I reward myself with tangible things - perfume, a new jacket - soemthing I can look back on in a year, and say to myself "hey, I remember when I tried that on and it fit!". Food is not a reward - or a goal. Food is something my body needs to flourish, but if I never eat a bag of potato chips again, it won't be the end of the world.

I've only cheated twice in 2 months. Both times I had planned on doing it though and I didn't overdo it.

1st time was at my Grandmother's wedding. I knew I'd have a couple beers and maybe a small piece of cake.

2nd time was Easter. I knew I'd have a couple pieces of candy.

No big deal, I just get back on track the next day.

How about this? I WANT to cheat. I have been dreaming of a Founders Favorite pizza from Donato's all day. I have been holding off and holding off and telling myself don't do it, but dang it! It would TASTE SO FREAKIN GOOD! WHAT 2 DO, WHAT 2 DO?

Question Does cheating once every 4 months hurt?

I have been doing low carb since Janurary of this year and have stuck to 30-50 carbs per day. I have lost 27 pounds so far and haven't cheated yet. If I were to cheat one day after 4 months and have about 300 carbs would it hurt all that much? If I would gain anything from it I don't want to do it, but if just one day would not make me gain then I am going to Pizza Hut.

I only "cheat" to try and jump start my metabolism if it feels sluggish. Really, it is more fun to eat "bad" foods that are actually legal, like Dreamfields Pasta. After a carb-fest I feel like poo poo. I gain about 6 lbs of fake weight, and get constipated, but my measurements always stay the same. I don't know if it really works or not.

Honestly I have been cheating about once a week lately. Like one meal or a carb item. Isn't that horrible? I just haven't been motivated lately and I am going to start strict induction again on monday.

I just wanted to add that carb foods don't do it for me like they used too. Like bread and stuff. It tasted so much better before when I had it all the time. You would think it would taste better now that its a rare treat. Pizza does taste good still!! LOL

You know what....I have to say that for the first 5 months I didn't go off of the plan at all...and then I had a planned cheat day....
Now...I have had some crackers when hungry and at work.....not often...and usually only 3.
Today....ok ok...I am going to confess you guys...hold on to your seats...I ate a whole pack of OREOs...what the heck is my problem...it did not feel good, I don't know why I ate them, it was the stupidest thing....and by the way, why the HECk do I have them in my office, because me the idiot bougth them for my adolescent group for snacks...DUH..... I had bought better snacks before and they complained, so I got some crackers a few weeks ago and now the oreos....I've gotta get them outta here!!!! 40darn carbs for 6 dang cookies that WEREN'T any good anyway.

I replied once per month because I reserve cheats for very special occassions....up until I totally fell off the wagon

I think if you stick to that (if you EVER decide to cheat) there should be no problem. Anyone cheating once a week or more is in for a downslide...I know, been there

I usually eat a regular cookie every couple of days. Today it was peanut butter (very good!). I don't think of it as cheating but as a choice. On the days I have my "cheat" I adjust my carbs for the rest of the day. Has not affected my weight loss.
