Default Which book??

So, I got the NDR book from the Library, and I've been breezing thru it.

I'll be ordering the book on the 1st (if I can't find it at the half priced book store), that way I have it here to read whenever I want!

My question is, should I go with New Diet Revolution, or should I go with New Atkins For A New You?

Thoughts?

I DON'T want NAFANY if all it's going to be is a promo to buy all of the Atkins products. I DON'T want to have to depend on Atkins drinks, shakes, bars, and meals. I want to be able to make my own meals with fresh ingredients and not feel like I need to buy their products to be successful.

As I said in the thread that JEY posted NANY is NOT an advertisement for their products (though that could be said of the Atkins website). It is a sound plan and I found the layout made it more understandable than earlier versions of Atkins. Books written by Atkins are wonderful for his chatty, almost avuncular style, but as a reference book, I find NANY easier to find the passages I'm looking for.

The notion of net carbs works well if your degree of insulin resistance is not too high. If you have marked insulin resistance, you can simply stay at induction levels long term or even cut carbs below 20 net to 20 total (which is what I did).

Dr Westman, one of the authors of NANY, uses 20 total grams of carbs in his clinical plan. Combine his book (pamphlet, really, and it's only $4.27 at Amazon) with NANY and you've got a great program. Then pick up used copies of Atkins' original book for pennies at used book stores and prepare to be charmed.

Though I am sure all of the Atkins variations work if followed and none of them insist you use the atkins company products, if you do not like lowcarb vegetables you might have problems following NANY's instructions to eat between 12 and 15 net carbs from your veggies!

If you are not keen on veggies you might find the "get most of your up to 20 net carbs from your up to 3 cups of veg" in DANDR easier to adhere to!

It seems we're quibbling about 10.01 net carbs from veggies vs 12. I would argue you could change that 12 to 10 without much difference in how well it works. On the other hand, I found the prescription of 12 to 15 net carbs from LC (or foundation) vegetables to be very helpful because it naturally limits how much you can eat of other foods which, coincidentally, seem to cause stalls and cravings for many: cream, cheese, nuts, artificial sweeteners.

There is such a wide range of vegetables allowed and some of them use up the Net Carbs really quickly. Among them would be onions, brussels sprouts, turnips, jicama, tomatoes.

I happen to love vegetables so it has never been a problem to get 12 NC if I'm eating 20 NC. If I'm eating fewer than 20 NC (I sometimes go as low as 20 total), I cut back accordingly, but try to keep carbs from veggies in the range of 60-75% of my total carbs.
