Default Atkins blamed for egg shortage

anyone read the daily mail today.they have a story entitled- egg prices rocketing as Atkins dieters blamed for shortage.
it goes on to say that the huge popularity of the Atkins diet has caused a 40% surge in the wholesale price of eggs.sales have risen by 9% so far this year, bringing fears of an egg shortage as well as a steep rise in the supermarket price.Egg producers may not be able to supply enough eggs to meet demand and cake and sweet manufacturers are being warned about possible shortages at xmas.Shame!

Those reporters must be running out of news to report.

Sorry, I can't help it.

Oh pulease

What next? Any chance of Atkins being blamed for an outbreak of slim, healthy people in the UK?

Oh I wish Sylvia!

But the news this morning seemed to suggest a Government health warning on Atkins.

I saw that too. Jane Moore in the Sun said something rather apt last week.

Quote:
THE Atkins Diet continues to be blamed for everything from ill health to global warming.

It’s been blamed for killing a US teenager, for Claire Sweeney’s kidney infection and now for increasing the likelihood of cancer to the womb.

These claims are as yet unproven. Meanwhile, obesity continues to kill thousands each year.

HI Jamie

Haven't seen you on the boards for a while, hope everythings going ok.

I was shocked while reading the news yesterday, Cadbury's sales are well down this year but they are blaming it all on the warm weather!!! I sat here laughing thinking no it's Atkins

I hope Atkins does keep getting the blame for egg shortages and falls in sales in bread etc. Hopefully this will get through to supermarket buyer's that there is a call for a LC range.

It's tough to find macadamia nuts also. And the lower-carb sausage options. And it is true that eggs seem to be selling fast.

LC isn't going to go away, because it works. Maybe someday the shops (and the gov't) will get that through their heads.

Emily

Hi Jamie

That is an excellent quote. Puts things in a much better perspective.

On the eggs issue, if I think of it there are less of them when I go shopping, but still very good stocks.

Gemma, if you scroll back through the thread you'll see that that remark was actually sent to another member called Jamie who posted a great quote

Gee, since you folks have seen a 40% rise in egg prices, have you noticed a 40% drop in bread prices? If the explanations held water, I'd expect this...my guess is that there's a little "profiteering" going on in response to your headlines. Eggs still cost about the same in the U.S. as they did 20 years ago!
