Default "Adkins" diet---kind of funny

I came across a message board where the people where discussing Atkins.
I've read DANDR so I know the principles even if I don't follow the diet.

The conversation went something like this (I'm paraphrasing):

"Has anyone ever tried the Atkins diet?"

"That's the all meat diet isn't it?"

"Yeah, you can eat all the meat and fat you want."

"An all meat diet is not healthy"

"An all meat diet causes colon cancer"

"I did the Adkins diet b/c my doctor told me to. Contrary to popular belief it isn't an all meat diet. He tells how many vegetables to eat as well as which ones to avoid. Fruit, bread, potatoes, starches, and sweets are all out. You can drink herbal tea and skim milk."

Even the one who said he/she is following it has got it all wrong. What about the phases and rungs??? Skim milk???

Well, at least she was eating veggies. I think the most surprising thing is that her doctor told her to do it!!!

There are different degrees to Atkins. The diet didn't start the same way as it is now, and they may just be trying to simplify it for them. The best thing about Atkins is that it is adjustable to eat individual, even the good Dr. would attest to that.

Even when Atkins was alive, and even on his own discussion forum, you could tell the people who hadn't read any of his books by the fact they called it "Adkins".

Maybe they are calling it 'Adkins' because after induction we add other food groups?
