Default Question: Zone vs. Atkins

Hey! I am curious about which way I should go. I am dance major at college and I generally spend 10 hours a day/6 days a week literally on my toes in classes and rehearsals. I then weight train for an additional 40 minutes four days a week. I gained about 20 pounds my first two years of college, so I went on the Atkins diet at the beginning of the summer to get back down to my goal weight of 110-115. However, I am afraid that with all of the excercise and energy I will be putting forth in the next year, the low carb plan of Atkins just won't cut it. I don't know alot about The Zone or any of the other LC diet plans, but I was just hoping you guys would have some ideas or suggestions about low carb and my energy levels and what plan would work best for a ballerina! I am so happy with Atkins and the results I have seen, but I also am concerned about my overall health in the long run. Thanks!!

Smile The Zone Over Atkins for Ballet

I would definitely go Zone over Atkins. It is designed to keep your blood sugar levels nice and steady, and has enough carbs to sustain you, but not so many as to drain you. It really does work well when you do it correctly. In some of the literature, I believe he even makes some suggestions around adding additional Fat Blocks for those Zoners who are athletes.
I danced for a long time, and really did love ballet more than anything. I am familiar with the challenges of trying to diet and to dance simultaneously. Atkins really is much lower carb than you probably want to go, in my humble opinion. Good Luck!!
