I wonder if that lowers the carb count to use half and half?

Well I'm falling behind on eating them. I now have nine small jelly jars waiting LOL I've been eating about 2 per day. One day I made 4 and most other days 3.
Today the big jar fermented for about 30 hours. It just barely started separating at the bottom.
I decided to wash the grains because I couldn't tell where they were in the thickness of it all, so I guessed it was time. I wasted some milk doing it and maybe lost a few babies but I felt that according to other comments it was needed.
What do you think?

I think washing grains is a matter of choice. Dom's site provides instructions for washing grains, but states that it's not necessary unless production decreases or it takes longer to get initial separation of curd and whey.

My grains are producers. I'm getting to the point where I need to add more milk, separate my grains, or add some of the grains to a smoothie for consumption. The grains are multiplying, and I just received them and started using them on Wednesday. I'll avoid washing them for the time being.

Tried an 8 ounce glass of kefir today and stirred in a quarter teaspoon of vanilla extract. Nice flavor and very rich where I wouldn't need a sweetener. I'm now using local whole milk that's grass fed with no additives of any kind. I can tell I may have to add more milk and make larger batches, as the separation of curd and whey starts to occur from 21 to 23 hours, where in the first few days, I could go over 24 hours before I'd see any separation.

This is the second time I've seen a tiny bit of separation and it really went too long at about 29 hours. If I remember correctly, I don't think we want it to separate so best to stop before it does. My grains are a week old now and I must have had about 1/2 pint of it. I think half of it was the creamy slime like they call it.
They're very prolific grains and I have increased the milk every day.
