Default What does CAD/CALP stand for?

I'm new to this forum and don't quite understand all the abbreviations? What is CAD/CALP and is there a book to read? It's been interesting reading all the posts regarding CAD/CALP vs. Atkins. I am just completing my Induction phase on the Atkins. I have lost 10 lbs. and feeling great, but I definitely would be interested in reading about other low-carb diets.

Default CAD/CALP

Carbohydrate Addicts Diet & I believe Carb Addicts Life Plan...

Do read the books....they can most likely be found at your local library...

I have read the 1st, but not the second and actually did start out on CAD...then onto Atkins...Everyone is different...(YMMV...Your mileage may vary!) The basic difference is you have a reward meal everyday that can include carbs formerly thought of as forbidden! The are lots of other details, like the amount of carbs vs protein in ratio must be equal and the meal from your first bite last no longer than 1 hour total...if you continue eating your insulin will spike and that is NOT a good thing! This is a short version so keep in mind there are other details as well!

It is worth a read, as is PP (Protein Power) and PPLP (Protein Power Life Plan)

Knowledge is a good thing!

Default CALP

CALP stands for The Carbohydrate Addict's Lifespan Program. It is a newer version of Dr. Richard F. Heller and Dr Rachael F. Heller's Carbohydrate Addicts book.

CALP is much easier for me to follow than I think Atkins would be. Mind you.... I have never done Atkins but I have learned a lot from reading it and other Low-Carb books.

My suggestion would to read, read, read......and learn as much as you can so that you will find what works best for you. Atkins and Hellers both have wonderful information in them.

With best wishes,
Libby
