Question

Has anyone ever tried this stuff? I found it today in a little jar tucked in by the milk and creams at the supermarket. It is approx 48% M.F. which seems to me is even better than whipped cream...or is it?

It is the same consistency as whipped butter and tastes oh so yummy (I just had a little bit).

Anyone got any ideas on how to find the carb count in it?

Thanks,

Stina

Hi Stina,

This is the low-down on Devon Cream. It is quite yummy, isn't it!

Calories per Serving = 125; from Fat = 121

Total Fat = 13 grams
Saturated Fat = 8 grams
Cholesterol = 36 milligrams
Sodium = 10 milligrams
Total Carbohydrate = 1 gram
Dietary Fiber = 0 grams
Sugars = 1 gram 0%
Protein = 0 grams

Look for another container in the dairy section, about the size of a small yogurt called Jersey Farms Devon Cream. It's made in Canada and is much fresher tasting than the bottled stuff.

Question

What would this cream be used for? Would you use it instead of whipping cream?

Thanks, Debra

When I have it, I usually eat it right out of the container with my finger!

Traditionally, it's used with scones for afternoon tea, but you can add flavouring to it. Some lemon juice and rind would be great with asparagus and broccoli for example. Or, use it in place of whipping cream in sauces. Be careful about cooking it too long because the high butter fat content will cause it to separate quickly.

I'm not sure if the stuff in the jar can be whipped because it's been "canned", but try it and tell us what happened.
