Default A proper introduction

After more than a month on this site, I thought I should properly introduce myself as it looks like I am going to remain an active member here. (Thanks to those who already have commented on my posts.)

I'm in my second round with low-carb. My first round was about 13 years ago. It worked great, but I didn't understand at the time that the low-carb way of eating needed to be a lifetime change.

Over the years, the pounds piled on until I weighed more than when I did low carb the first time. I hit the 200 number in May, and that was it.

Now, that I'm older and heavier, it is taking longer for the pounds to come off. But I think I'm a little wiser this time around. I'm looking at friends and family members with health problems such as type 2 diabetes, and I realize that could be me in a few years. So now it's more about wanting to remain as healthy as I can for the rest of my life than about wanting to lose weight (although that's good, too).

When I become interested in something, I tend to become obsessed with it, so I have been reading a lot about LCHF and intermittent fasting. I'm especially impressed with Dr. Westman, the Diet Doctor website and the works of Dr. Fung. (Thanks, Janet, for putting up info on Dr. Westman, and, Arielle, thanks for info on "The Dental Diet!" Go, Vitamin K2!)

One thing I've accepted this time around is that my carb addiction, especially to junk foods, is like a drug addiction. If I stay away from the junk food, then I don't crave it. But if I start eating it, I will crave it. The hard thing is that much of the culture revolves around junk.

I hope to attend an event featuring Dr. Westman in the fall. For once in my life, I live close enough to be able to see in person a health expert I admire.

Thanks so much to those who created this site. This is such a supportive place, and it is making this journey easier as I move one day at a time into the low-carb lifestyle.
