Wow- these look great! Do you think they could be baked instead of fried? I'm not into deep frying...it's so messy (although it is tasty).

Default Donuts..

I would assume that baking them would not give them the same texture as a donut... aren't all donuts in some way deepfried??

I know you could probably used the stove with some oil in a pan with a grease screen if you don't have a deepfryer....

but i think it will be worth the mess.. get a little baby frydaddy!!! mmmmmmmmmmmm mmmmmm mmmmmmmmmm

Last time I ate a donut it made my stomach hurt. Wonder what these would do. But I don't eat eggs. What chould I substitute for the eggs?

I have a pan of peanut oil on the stove from when I made my son corn dogs. I also have all the ingredients except for the heavy cream. I'll try yogurt isntead, maybe give them a sourdough type taste. The only problem I have, is what to do with them after. Plain doughnuts are ick, though I love glazed. Maybe melt SF chocoalte for a glaze, herm.

I remember seeing someone posting about donuts. It's funny - I just ordered one of those little donut makers. You know the kind that makes 6 mini donuts? It came with a book of donut recipes. I followed the instructions on the Atkins bake mix for substituting in place of flour. Now I make little LC donuts. Most of them come out to 1 carb each. There are a couple of recipes I haven't "perfected" yet b/c they call for frozen juice concentrate. I think I can come up with a way to use DaVinci syrups in place of the juice. They have a great pumpkin donut recipe that is so simple. The donuts have a little diff't texture. But, the kids love them and that was the whole goal. We are uses to having a donut before church on Sunday. Now, even I enjoy one occassionally.

I tried these, and I didn't like them at all. They were very dry (when dh went to try one I said "get a glass of water first") and I ended up throwing most of them away.... and I LOVE doughnuts.
I'd be interested to hear if anyone else enjoyed them though.
I did find another doughnut recipe that turned out quite well... here's the link:

I stumbled across fake donuts when I was trying to make a batter. Take designer whey protein (I used vanilla), add sweeter and enough water to make a thick paste. Drop by teaspoon into oil to make donut holes. Taste pretty close to the real thing without a lot of carbs.
