Default Can I continue to lose weight and quit smoking???

I have to quit because of high blood pressure. I want to quit because of my family...I am the only one who smokes and I hate it. I started again after 7 years of no smoking because I gained weight. 30 lbs in that 7 years!!! I decieded then that I would rather smoke than be overweight. Stupid me!! Now I am just a fat smoker!! But being fat caused me to be depressed and I don't want to go through that again.

I would like to know if anyone has lost weight and quit smoking at the same time. How did you do it?? any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Katy!

I know that there are those who have tackled both weight loss and quitting smoking at the same time, but I have to say it's a tough row to hoe and I personally wouldn't attempt it. I know for myself, quitting was the top priority when I decided once and for all to quit so I focused on that and tried not to obsess about the weight. Don't get me wrong, I still counted carbs and watched what I ate, but knowing that smoking was artificially increasing my metabolism, I was willing to accept that I either wouldn't lose anything or that I just might gain a few pounds while I was working on improving my health on that front. Once I was confident in my quit, I turned my attention to losing the weight I had regained (5-7 lbs IIRC...it's been almost 5 years).

Hi kathy, I am doing this but it is sooooo slow. Steady at loosing 1 lb a week but it's better than gaining!

I am in the same boat as you Katy. I quit smoking as of Feb 7, 2011 (hopefully for good), and started low carb 2 days ago. My plan is to do plenty of cardio to boost my metabolism and help in the weight loss.
