Default Recommendations?

Do any of you have any favorite LC cookbooks to recommend? There seem to be alot of choices out there, so I thought I'd ask the folks here any of them are worth it! What about the Somer's books, any good?

Thanks in advance,
mg

If this is in the wrong place, sorry...

The best recipes I've found for lowcarbing are right here on the net, there are several great websites.

Default Thank you, ladies

Wow what a great site! There are alot of interesting recipes there.

I guess I was looking for some suggestions of actual books that I could carry around with me. I'll check out the book store again. Thanks, again.

I've used a lot of the recipes in Fran McCullough's Low-Carb Cookbook; also her Low Carb Living -- which contains both strategies and recipes. There are good basic recipes as well as some fancy ones -- but not too fancy, at least for me.

I like getting recipes on the web, too, but there's something nice about reading cookbooks -- or any books.

Default Somers

The recipes in Suzanne Somers' books (all 3 of them) are just fabulous. The one thing to beware of, there are no nutrient or carb counts, so you will have to do your own.

Great stuff.

Fran McCullough's recipes are also very good; Fran uses net carb counts and they usually check out quite accurately (she's prededucted the fiber).

All the books have some recipes, and they are all QUITE good for starting out with (such as Protein Power or Dr. Atkins' books).

My comments, by the way, are from a Foodie's perspective (I've got a LOT of cookbooks).

If you're really into it and can afford the carb counts (close to maintenance for instance), Baking Low Carb is fascinating. It MAY be available in a local bookstore, but Amazon for sure. I think there's even a 2nd edition out.

Enjoy.

I like Fran's book, but didn't care too much for the Carbohydrate Addict's cookbook. The Heller's used too many exotic and expensive ingredients for a family on a budget. I also bought 'Baking Low Carb,' but it uses Vanilla Whey Protein in almost every recipie - and lord, does it taste awful!

You mean the whey protein powder? The taste maybe due to the brand and their flavour additive. Whey by itself tastes wonderful. You may want to try a different brand, and may use plain powder and add vanilla extract to it.

What do you mean by "net carb count"? Effective carb count (ECC)= carb - fiber? Some (Atkins products) subtracts more then fivber to come up with "net " count.

Wink Cookbooks

I already put Fran McCullough's cookbook on my wish list for Christmas I hope my family gets the hint... just wanted you all to know you've been terribly helpful in your experienced recommendations. It's always good to hear from folks that have tried a book out. I definitely need one that is plain enough and not too exotic. I agree with Alto, there's something so nice about having a book in your hand to browse thru. Victoria
