Default your low carb food diary on Paleo

Hello all,

ive done paleo before for about 6 weeks, ( did the 30 day challenge and last a few weeks extra) I read The Paleo Diet by L Cordain numerous amounts of times. There is nothing in there to mention low carb. I didnt lose a great deal on Paleo but when I was restricting my carbs my weight would drop allot. So I am wanting to try again, this time low carb ( been browsing Marks Daily Apple)

Can you please show me your typical low carb Paleo days and the amount of carbs you are eating. I would like to go under 50grams to drop the most I can.

Thanks

(im sorry if this has been posted before, I did look on past threads but couldn't find anything)

PS Do you do coffee on paleo? I didn't during my 30 days.

Strict paleolithic eaters do not drink coffee. The idea is to eat nothing that our paleolithic ancestors did not have access to. I guess you DO have to stretch that a bit though...it's not as if our paleolithic ancestors had romaine lettuce, or green peppers, but those are OK to eat.

My carbs are about 50g per day.

Breakfast: always protein and fat based, very few carbs. Usually some version of bacon and eggs. Bacon is not paleolithic either, but hey, it's BACON! I'm eating it.

Lunch: Always salad (like Mark Scisson says, "Big Ass Salad," with nuts and seeds included. If I feel particularly hungry, I'll add some meat protein too.

Supper: Some meat protein and either salad or a cooked vegetable.

I sometimes skip a meal if I'm not hungry...this will usually be breakfast that I skip.

I lost weight very well on a "paleo-cheat" diet...it included dairy, but then I stalled for a year. When I did the Whole30 Challenge which is very strict paleo (as you know!) I lost 10lbs easily. Now I'm hard core paleolithic again, BUT I do eat bacon, and I drink coffee (black). I could probably manage to cut out the bacon if I HAD to, but no freakin' way am I giving up my morning coffee. Nuh uh!

Good luck!

12:00 - animal protein and salad (2 pork loin chops, minced beef or lamb, 2 salmon fillets, grilled chicken, prawns, between 120 and 250g with a cup or two of salad leaves and half an avocado)

17:30 - animal protein and vegetables (as above but with a cup or so of cooked courgette, onion, mushrooms, garlic, etc instead of the salad).

I also eat 120-200g berries and a handful of mixed nuts which I might start eating around 11am. I have an eating window of 6-7 hours so technically I am IFing although this happens naturally and I don't force the issue.

If I wanted to keep my carbs down I'd probably replace the berries with a boiled egg or two. Although having said that, I've just entered the above meals into fitday and the carbs sit nicely at 50g (1700cals, 112g protein, 118g fat), even with the blueberries and nuts.

I do drink 2 cups of black coffee a day. I don't use sweeteners, natural or artificial. I don't do dairy. I use olive oil, coconut oil, a little balsamic vinegar or fresh lemon/lime juice.

I lost 10lbs on the Whole 30 challenge in July and I think that's because I cut out dairy and completely stayed away from alcohol (I normally enjoy red wine every now and then).

Paleos enjoy meals containing meat, fish, poultry, seafood, eggs, vegetables, berries, fruits, nuts and seeds. To be Paleo and low carb just means that you limit the starchy higher carb foods, i.e. tubers and fruits.

You can make Paleo as low-carb as you want - just don't eat a lot of fruit or "Starchy" veggies. Rather, keep to the "salad" side of the veggies.

Here's my daily menu template:

Breakfast - 3 egg omelet and a piece of fruit.

Lunch - another 3 egg omelet (fast meal) and veggies OR tuna on celery with homemade olive oil mayo OR leftovers from the night before

Dinner - protein and veggies

Snacks (when hungry) - hard boiled egg, cut veggies, maybe a piece of fruit, string cheese (not paleo but a splurge for me! ;-) )

As you can see, my diet is very very simple....keeps the costs down. ;-)

Anne

PS - I used to drink coffee on paleo, with a splash of heavy whipping cream, but I quickly lost the taste for it. I just woke up one morning and decided that I wanted a cup of hot green tea instead. ;-)

Haha! I don't think I will ever be in danger of waking up with a thirst for green tea rather than coffee However, it is currently my mission to try
