Default Hard stools

Hi everyone,

Every once in a while I find that I will have very hard stools. This is not necessarily new since starting CALP plan. I have a history of hemorrhoids, etc. For the last 2 days, I have gone to the bathroom but the stool has been very hard to pass resulting in a bleeding.

My plan is to up my water intake, take benefiber to increase my fibre and focus on my veggies.

I am just getting over a cold so activity is non existance and I probably am not drinking as much water.

In a day I eat:

Breakfast tea with milk and AS, cottage cheese
Lunch salad (greens, approved veggies, salad dressing, cheese on top of salad)
Supper RM salad to start with dessert

I just want to get some affirmation that this is the right way to go. I don't feel I need to see a dr. at this point as this has happened to me in the past so not something new.

Thanks in advance for listening and your replies.

ALynneE,

Congratulations on the progress you have made so far!

I was going to suggest that cheese may be the cause of your problem so I did a search to try and back it up. I am happy I did the search because the results of my search caused me to erase everything that I previously wrote here.

Check out this link and see if it may be of any assistance to you! http://www.youngerthanyourage.com/13/constipation.htm

Good luck to you in getting it all figured out!

ALynnE, In one of the Hellers books they suggest eating two stalks of celery a day, at the same time each day, to help with what you are experiencing... hope you can find something that helps. You could also, at your RM, eat a high fiber cereal such as all bran or fiber one, that seems to work too.

Thanks Mandi! I will take a look at the link. I think the benefiber is helping.

I'm very happy I started CALP - for years I have been trying to lose weight following the food guide, exercise, etc. without real results. Just maintenance. So, I am thrilled with the progress I have made.

I'm stalled now - for a few weeks I've been hovering around the same weight. I know I need to take a step back and redirect myself, especially around activity. But, right now I'm fighting a cold so I need to get over that first.

hi-
I have found this to be an isue, but I think my supplements of Omega 3 and magnesium help.
Welcome to the site!
Just feel better, stay OP and you will be fine. I just think this is a slower and healthier program- please don't stress over a few pounds.
Write lots!

It's not.

Fiber causes constipation. Fiber supplements make it worse. Grains and flax and psyllium and bran make it worse yet. Instead try to wean yourself gradually off the fiber. Taking fiber to make you regular is like taking sleeping pills to help you sleep. Both are short term fixes with long term prices to pay.
