Oh you know I love a good experiment, and yours are the best. Have you seen the reddit keto group? I think this is similar, although I had discounted monitoring ketones due to the issues you mentioned with urine analysis (that ideally you are using the ketones you make up before they are excreted!) Blood monitoring, yikes!

Hi Deci, yes blood testing, but I am used to it because of my diabetes. This does take a bit more blood than the newest glucose meter, tho. Not bad just have to get used to it.

No, I have not seen the reddit keto group. I had never done testing by the urine keto strips as I read that it is not really accurate after the first few weeks.

Actually, I am having a good time doing this, it really keeps me on my toes. More imprinting of good information and good discussions along the way. I even went out and bought a good digital scale today. I had been using a spring one but decided I wanted TARE and to be able to use my own plate. Now, I am just waiting to weight my chicken for dinner! LOL

Thanks for the links, Arlene. And congrats on your loss, you are doing great!
I just ordered that Phinney book at the library, I should get it in a couple of weeks, only 2 persons before me.

Yes, I agree, I was a bit surprised too. They have three copies, and five people who want to read it right now, lol.

DAY 10 July 25, 2012
Weight 150
Fasting Glucose 86
Fasting Ketones .6 I MADE IT!!!! *

1828 Calories
28 g carbs (14 net)
87 g protein
157 g fat

*Since I did not test yesterday, I could have slipped into Nutritional Ketosis on day 7 or 8, whichever day, it feels good to know I am here. My mouth is just a little dry, nothing like it was the first days, my eyes are fine, and I have energy galore. Yesterday I had to force food to keep my calories up, two Tbs of coconut oil with my macadamias last night. I had gone back to one ounce of HWC in my coffee, but this morning, I used two. Anyone who goes this route will find they are going to very consciously add fat to their menu.
I was actually glad to see I did not lose any weight yesterday, as it was becoming expected and now I will see what it will do. Right now I am going to stay at about 1850 kcalories a day.

Hee hee, last night I dreamt of hiking up a mountain with my daughters and eating an energy bar half-way up. It was sugar filled and had nougat all through it. I have no idea where that came from. It is almost a year since I started LC and do not remember any dreams of off plan food before!

Congratulations! I am following your experiment and look forward to seeing your progress and what you are eating.

I would like to shed 5 pounds in the next two months. I am at the point in my journey where my body wants to hang on to every pound. At 5'4" I still have some fat to shed.

Congrats Aradasky! cool!

Also I LOL a little at my desk because in the reddit keto group they are always talking about dreams where they eat carbs and I thought these people were crazy! Apparantly it is a ketosis thing, maybe - ha!
