Default Coconut Oil Substitution: Fail

Ran out of coconut oil before our gallon pail arrived; dang!

So I tried hemp oil instead. We got this at the health food store because of its high Omega 3 profile, and in a bean salad, it's great.

As a coconut oil substitute in coffee, URK.

I'll just have to hang in there until our shipment arrives. Glad I nixed the lard.

Ooh, I cannot imagine what I would do if I ran out of coconut oil. But I heard a story where coconut oil is going to be scarce real soon. The need for the coconut water (taken from young coconuts only) is making the coconuts for the oil very limited in supply. I would stock up on an extra if you can afford it!! Brian Shilhavy ( I am sure I misspelled his name!) from Tropical Traditions wrote about it recently. Just this April in fact. And since I buy from TT I am hoping to stock up too!

I could be wrong, but are you sure he didn't write that in order to get you to buy more?

If not, that stinks.

One of those morning shows had it on. It was either Today or Good Morning America...one of those and they made an alcoholic drink with it. If you read up on the websites that sell it (I did when I first heard of it) you will see all the media that went with it. I have seen it on the shelves where I work and it sells out quick!!! And yes, I do buy it as well!! I love it. I have adrenal fatigue and the potassium and sodium in it helps me.

I was just looking at the TT site and I'm wondering if you all like the expeller pressed as much and the non-expeller pressed. I am not planning on eating it straight or in coffee, but in cooking with it and mixing it into hot foods. I have roasted brussels sprouts in the coconutty smelling stuff before and it wasn't so good.

Generally, I cook with the expeller pressed and eat with the virgin, though I do cook my eggs in the VCO as well.

I buy both the virgin (for me!) and the expeller pressed (For the family!). I tried cooking, actually baking, some brownies using the virgin as the oil. Never again!! The whole pan of brownies went in the trash---horrid tasting. I now buy the expeller pressed for any baking or cooking I do.

I know you're not; I've seen other people post about getting it at Sam's Club, too.

However, neither of these are near me. There are good deals at Netrition, and they ship for $5 with a $40 order: I get my coconut flour and other low carb items from them, too:

Netrition Coconut Oil
