This morning's Breakfast with Frost will be talking about the Atkins diet this morning - the programme has already started but they haven't started discussing it yet.

Thanks Demi - I've just watched it. I think Atkins came off well. I wish they'd give up on this kidney failure thing. My cousin went off Atkins just because of this bad publicity.

With the amount of water we are encouraged to drink, I think for most of us our kidneys are probably healthier than they've ever been!

It's simple. If you HAVE kidney trouble, consult your Dr before doing Atkins. If you DON'T have it, you won't get it on Atkins!

I do wish people would think a bit before believing every single scare mongering press release out there.

As I read someone where else, no one has died so far doing Atkins. Whilst there are elements of truth in all these negative things they are highlighting what they are not saying is how bad the underlying symptom of obesiety is and the health problems that this results in. Its certainly a no win scenario.

The dietitian on TV actually said that one of her patients had died from kidney faure as a result of doing Atkins. If this is true I'm amazed we haven't heard of it before.

Agreed. If this were true, wouldn't the media have trumpeted it to the heavens already?

If one of her patients actually did die of Kidney failure I am sure it wasnt down to Atkins, and the press and medical proffesion would have had a field day!!

did she say 'as a result of Atkins' or 'while following Atkins'?

if it was the 'result' i think she could possibly have a law suit on her hands, if Atkins decided to take action. If this was true we would of heard about it by now, and at least one member of the person's family would of tried to sue.

This person must of had pretty bad kidney failure before starting Atkins and would of got medical treatment. They would of been given dietery advice, if that person decided to ignore there protein levels then thats down to them and cannot be blamed on Atkins.

I saw this too and thought the typical atkins dieter they had on was a bit ridiculous. Im sure she is a lovely woman but she didnt look very healthy to me and a long way from her goal weight.

Not saying I could do any better myself but surely there are women out there who look the picture of health, have lost considerable weight and are at their goal

The cynic in me thinks they picked her on purpose!!

By the way - Demi
are you the Demi thats a moderator from carblife forum? I was a member there when I first started out and it being such an unusal (lovely) name I figure there cant be two of you out there!!
