Default shirataki noodles

I tried these for the first time last night. I rinsed them throughly as the water they come packed in smells like old fish. After I rinsed them, they smelled a lot better. I decided to cook them in a frying pan with with some broccoli, squash, zuchinni, and some olive oil. I seasoned it all with garlic salt and it tasted quite good.

The problem all started about 30 minutes after we finished dinner. My husband and I both got horrible indigestion and as indelicate as this sounds, extreme flatulence! It was awful. We both took alka-seltzer and later gas-x tablets. It lasted all night. This morning, I was nauseous and still gassy.

I guess it's all the fiber these noodles contain. I'll never eat this product again. I'm not willing to chance ever feeling that yucky.

I have some of these and I will have to try them out and see if I have a bad reaction.

What are they made out of?

I'm too lazy to go look in my fridge now.

There are some that are made with yams and what not.

yikes - I've had them and had no such reaction, thank goodness. I believe they are made out of the root of the Konjac plant.

Hi, I tried them. They didn't give me any bad reactions but I didn't really like them. They are kind of OK with Japanese style food but they are certainly no substitute for pasta. And they are rather inconvenient as they are packed in fluid.
Personally, I have found that nothing is a substitute for pasta. So I have to do without. :-(

I love them and have not had that effect, but heard other people complain, they are not digested on, ahem, the way out.......

i love them for:
cold pasta salads with sundried tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, Italian dressing- artichoke hearts, marinated mushrooms, etc....

with powdered cheddar (I know, I know) when i want moc mac n cheese
(like the kind in the blue box)

in soup for pho or chicken noodle, or vegetable noodle

BUT, for things like marinara sauce or alfredo, I prefer beds of roasted broccoli shreds, cabbage, spinach, etc....

We've tried them with great success, no digestive issues. Miracle Noodles - angel hair style was the brand we used.
