Dose any one have any advice or experience with chewing tobacco? I started when I was 18 so that means I have been chewing for ummmm 13 years.

It is more then time to stop so any help would be great

Thanks

Mike, I don't have any experience, but every instinct says STOP IT NOW no matter how.

I think you could follow any advice from people who've quit any kind of tobacco for the nicotine addiction. The one difference, I would imagine, that you'd miss the chewing as well as the nicotine -- there's gum, there's celery. It might seem obvious to try one of the nicotine gums, but that can be a problem too. I had a friend who quit smoking only to keep chewing the nicotine gum, despite the very stern warnings of his doctor. (He got esophageal cancer.)

With chewing tobacco one has to worry about mouth cancer as well as throat and lung. I hope you can find a way I wish I could offer more concrete help -- reading through these threads may give you some ideas, though. Best of luck.

Hi Dave!
I've never chewed tobacco, but I did smoke for 22 years, and have been off all forms of nicotine for 15 days now...
I think you have to be really ready for this, I was and it hasn't been to bad..I chew a lot of sugar free gum...I don't believe it is right to try to rid your body of nicotine, by continuing to put nicotine in your body such as nicorette gum or the patch.
I wish you the best of luck, you can do this, drink a lot of water this helps...
Keep me posted...
Louise

Smile The sooner the better the benefits

A very close friend of mine chewed tobacco for many years. It is exactly the same as smoking if not worse. It can lead to massive mouth ulcers in later life. She knew she had to give it up - and did eventually. The withdrawal symptoms are the same as nicotine withdrawal. It was hell to be around her while she gave up but we were all very proud of her as she returned to being her REAL self. She has been tobacco free for about 20 years now.

It will get harder before it gets better but it's well worth it.

Take care.
