Default can I get "lean"?

Hi,

I've been Sommersizing since 9-1-03 and have lost about 13 lbs. I started the diet so I could lose my beer belly and drop back down a few pants sizes. Except for the gut I had put on in the last couple of years, I've never been heavy. My question is, will I continue to drop weight to the point where I'm actually lean? The rate of weight loss seems to have slowed down since the first few weeks, can I really expect it to continue? I'm not exercising much at this point, but w/the exception of coffee, which I cut down to just one cup a day, I'm following the diet pretty strictly.

Default Yes, if you are persistant enough.

For most people the weight loss slows down after the first few weeks, but if you stick strictly to Level 1 you'll probably keep on losing indefinitely. Expect to hit plateaus where you stay at the same weight for weeks, or even a few months. People who have done this plan long term have held fast and found they eventually start losing again, though everyone is different.

Somersizing is slower than many low carb plans because you are allowed so many carbs and fruits etc. If you get carried away with too much fat or too many sweets, even sugar free, you can foil yourself. Posting a journal is helpful because people can then make suggestions and point out stuff you might miss yourself.

There is a testimonial in one of Suzanne's books from a woman who is confined to a wheelchair. She did very little exercise but still lost an enormous amount of weight.

I've managed to lose 40 lbs on this WOE without regular exercise. I've found that weight loss really differs from person to person, though. For me, I tend to lose 1-2 lbs a week and my stalls don't tend to last more than a few weeks. Unless I cheat, of course, in which case, I see an immediate gain. The past couple of months have been BAD.

This time of year is always hard, Lil, at least for me. I get the "stuff yourself for hibernation" urge and want to bake breads and cookies and drink hot chocolate from September through March.

Suzanne's ice cream recipes and Russell Stover SF candies have helped me a bunch because I'm such a sucker for sweets.

You've done REALLY well so far! Any secrets to staying on track you'd like to share?
