Almost like that makes her new plan superior or something..?

I thought the way she said "l love bread"..twice...was scary sad. Like an addict talking, or advertising AA by saying she has a martini everyday. But then many are addicted to bread and that slightly deranged attitude toward one food mirrors their own addiction. I LOVED bread..and if I hadn't read the GB,BC chapter on cancer, probably wouldn't have had the incentive to break my addiction either.
Dr Davis plans to write an open letter about the ad.

Thanks, Jo. I would say Dr. Davis nailed it with a very succinct and thorough message. Here's the summary:

Quote:
Perhaps it’s not too late to make amends: Sell your shares, learn and reflect on your mistakes, make the necessary apologies, come to understand that Americans have been misinformed, exploited, and used—refuse to be a part of it. And understand that solutions for weight and health will not come through conventional providers of dietary advice, whether government or private, as the profit motive is too strong and exerts too much influence. The solutions for weight loss and health are, in truth, simple, accessible to virtually everyone, and come at almost no cost. But those solutions won’t make anyone rich.

William Davis, MD

I can only hope that this message effectively gets out to the masses.

I'm very happy to see Dr Davis' response to.Oprah's very poor and uniformed choices.
Once again, this stock will yoyo as her weight yoyos as she resists the truth of her poor and uneducated eating habits. Too bad for those who blindly follow her.

The "I love bread"clip made it to ABC Evening news with David Muir, he comments something about not having to give up carbs, and then that is followed by...what else? Two new diabetes med ads! One oral, the other some new injectable insulin, that went on and on about the side effects.

Emphasising the ability to eat bread in the diet is probably to attempt to attract those who might be tempted by low carb, which is making a resurgence lately.

JEY, I saw Oprah's "I love bread and I can eat it everyday" ad this morning... She did say in the WW ad that she's lost 26 lbs.

Curious to know how long it took her to lose...

How many people have we shared our incredible LC WOE plan with who tell us afterwards that they can't give up bread or any other of their favorite toxic carbs...so for them the LC WOE is a deal breaker... **heavy sigh**

She seemed to indicate she was starting WW back in mid October when she bought those shares.
Not only was that ad targeting LC, but Paleo and those darn No Wheat and Grains doctors...why Dr Davis wrote his brilliant response to her in an Open letter. Outpouring of support for his tough letter to her on both his blog ^^ and FB page. https://www.facebook.com/OfficialWh...019726098073947

I know! I think she does have an addiction to bread.
It is almost biblical though. Give us this day our daily bread....
I'm sorry, but bread today just isn't the same and all bread isn't created equal.

If WW had any vision they would embrace Low-Carb and run with it.
If they did, I might join!

But then Oprah couldn't eat her whole grain bread
And I asked an instructor I know...smart points still allow unlimited fruit.

Btw, I love reading the thousands of amazing success stories on Wheat Belly. This women now has a weight related FB page, YouTube channel, etc. Kay is a former WW instructor and then for faith-based weight loss, done them all, but none stuck until she gave up wheat. WW and similar LF diets figure into her wild weight ride:

If I remember correctly from my multiple failed WW tries, it's pretty low cal so a woman her size would lose some weight. I mainly felt like I was starving and craving all the time on WW

Many of us on this site know that whenever anyone says, "I just can't give up [XYZ]" it's a red flag for eventual failure. It might be bread or coffee or wine or cheese or oatmeal. (Funny nobody ever says broccoli--but then, on LC, that's just temporary, right?)

I'm glad that lady had success on Wheat Belly. But then, she had success on every diet she used! The real "secret" for her, as for many of us, is conscientious eating and accountability. Keeping a diary. Teaching a class (!) Telling your story to yourself and others in a way that keeps you on top of it. That's what we do here.

That's what Oprah is trying to do, too. Every diet will work for her. But only the one she stays on forever will work for her forever. That she hasn't learned yet.

Of course, we're convinced that our secret success on LC (or some variation) is the way it releases us from hunger, binging, cravings, and other forms of enslavement to food--including the perpetual job of counting (calories, points, macros, or whatever). With LC eating, daily life can become more simple--even if the science is complicated.

I don't want to go to meetings--let alone pay for my own efforts to keep my weight under control. But I don't dare count up the hours I spend "meeting" ya'll right here. It would be embarrassing. But...it works.

^^^This is exactly why WW is doomed to fail us over and over again and Oprah will fail too. Their entire point system is based on a food's fat content. If its low fat or fat free, it gets unlimited points. That alone is a recipe for disaster, as we know here.

I feel sorry for anyone who is buying into Oprah's latest claims. She's a great sales person but she is selling her own addiction.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but there's something about "oh, you can still eat XYZ!" (bread, fruit, etc.) that seems condescending -- treating people in a childlike way by letting them have the foods they "crave" (of course to keep them hooked on a program).

The comments above about science are insightful. I think WB finds a really good place in explaining a lot of the science behind it and also understanding and supporting where people may struggle as they make changes.
