Default Banana Cream Oatmeal

Okay, simple and probably been done before, but for any real oatmeal fans out there - Oatmeal has always been my "comfort food." I've been making my "concoction" using sf maple syrup for a maple/brown sugar taste, but decided to try this today... YUM.

equal amts of ground almonds and flax seed (ground) - I use about 2 tbsp ea.
1 packet AS
about 1/4-1/2 (just a drop really) tsp banana extract
a little heavy cream (just a smidge) and enough water to make it soupy
nuke for about one and a half minutes (stir half-way through) and voila!

Takes about 15 seconds to put together and is very filling.

That makes so much sense, but I never would've thought to create that myself. My favorite Quaker Oats used to be the banana cream followed by blueberries in cream. Thanks for the recipe.

Honestly, I never actually figured it out exactly, but it's minimal. I usually count it as 4.5-5 just to be safe, but really it probably a bit less. It's great fiber wise.

Hey Nancy,

I just tried your banana oatmeal this morning. Yummy. It was good. I also have this porridge called flax o meal in cinnamon spice and butter pecan flavors. They are really good too (Net 1 and net 2 respectively before cream and sweetener). Flax just seems to cancel itself out for carbs. ie. 4 g of carbs to 4 grams of fibre per 2 Tablespoons. Yay!!! Your recipe works out to 5 net carbs because of the almonds cream and splenda (Good Guessing). Yummy though, my 3 year old loved it too. Thanks for the recipe

Glad you guys like it. My 12-year-old daughter likes it better than regular oatmeal too.

Thanks for the review.

this really is good--i made it last night with almond meal, heavy cream, brown sugar twin, cinnamon, and a little vanilla--it was a very nice treat! (I have a weakness for peaches and cream oatmeal with milk so I'll have to play with this recipe and figure out a way to make it taste like it)

You aren't supposed to have nuts on true induction (tho i ate 1 oz nuts as a snack dialy during induction and was fine). Almond meal you can get at health food stores and even some grocery stores. More and more stores now are carrying the Bob's Red Mill brand, and they make almond flour. YOu can also grind your own almonds, all almond meal/almond lfour is is ground almonds. Just dont' over process it or you'll get almond butter. I'm lazy, i'd rather go buy it! LOL.

Flax seed you can also grind your own (coffee grinders work good, but dont' use the one you use for coffee). Flax seeds need to be kept in teh fridge, as they will get rancid eventually. Grind them up as you need them for the freshest. If you are lazy like me, you can buy them already ground. I've seen them everywhere from the health food stores to drug stores. Once opened, again, keep them in the fridge. They are usually sealed in vacuum bags in the stores. The golden flax seeds are supposed to have a milder flavor than the black ones. Mine I bought pre-ground, and i assume are the black ones, as it doesn't specify they are the golden ones. I am still using the first package i bought, i keep mine in the freezer actually.

Hi Nancy, I really want to try this recipe but i'm a little confused, do you actually use oatmeal (is that the same as rolled oats?) in this recipe? if so how much? and can you substitute banana essence for anything else? Cheers!

No there is no real oatmeal. I think that is used as a title simply because that is what it resembles.

I had to add some water as this was extremely dry.
