Default What to serve with crack slaw

I am making crack slaw to take with me this weekend and I am wondering what to make to go with the slaw. We will be out of town and I want to take all of my food with me. I just don't know what to pair with crack slaw. Help!

Why don't you just take some Bibb lettuce or iceberg and make the slaw into wraps? It's got meat in it, so you won't need a side of meat. Crack slaw "tacos" sound good to me

Good idea. How would it travel though? The lettuce would have to remain firm for 2 days.

Have you tried those 'green' bags that keep vegetables fresher longer? I believe they have small holes in them to let the bag 'breathe'. I get them at Dollar Tree and they seem to help keep my lettuce fresher longer.

Crack slaw tacos DOES sound good! I love the recipe from Linda's site! Good luck!

Be sure not to salt your crack slaw mixture because you put the soy sauce in which is full of salt.
I recommend this because I have twice over salted batches.

It's great with bib lettuce and I buy the whole lettuce, one in a plastic dome that is alive with a root in the bottom.
This would keep very well if kept cool.

Not every crackslaw recipe calls for soy sauce. I don't use it in mine.

I made a Mexican chili flavored one this week I don't pair it with anything and just eat it by itself.

Because traditional Asian food is meant to be eaten with rice, the sauces and flavors are concentrated. Thus, those dishes need the rice to dilute the concentrated flavors.

Crackslaw is different. The flavors are balanced for the amount of vegetable in the dish -- it's complete in itself. It doesn't need anything else and doesn't end up with a bunch of extra sauce.

i love the lettuce wrap idea!

since it is made to be an entire meal, i normally don't make anything with it, but chicken skewers with a sf peanut sauce would be a delicious appetizer.

Hey JAnn,
Can you not stop and buy lettuce just before you arrive to wherever you're going? Or is it that remote?

I've got the lettuce. I will make the crack slaw tomorrow.

Today I had to go to have my back worked on so was gone all afternoon. Didn't eat properly so am very tired and made poor eating decisions.

It is the same thing. She just didn't like the name so called it something else.

I've made this so many times that I think I could make it with my eyes closed...
Linda has some good stuff and yes, that name she didn't like, I don't blame her. I wonder who was the first to name it crackslaw?

That is just one of many variations on the same theme.
I've been using ground turkey instead of beef. I make it several different ways to give it different flavors, I like it that much.
Italian
Szechuan
Indian Garam Masala
Mexican Chili

I make one large pot and use 1 x 20 ounce package of meat and a lot of cabbage and some onion, chopped tomato and carrots. Sometimes mushrooms. It always yields 5-6 servings and gets me through the week without having to cook.
