Default Homemade Quest bars

I loved those things and I just found they are selling them at the 7-11 across the street, but for more than $3 each! Ouch!

So, I googled "homemade quest bar" and found interesting stuff. The basic one is made with "VitaFiber" (Isomalto-oligosaccharides)

Here's the link I discovered. The VitaFiber isn't terribly expensive, but the shipping is atrocious, of course.

That's another brand of IMO. More pricey but with shipping included it might be better.

FYI: Just made my first bar. It was good! I used peanut flour, vitaFiber, caramel flavoring and egg protein. Was rather sticky though.

I'd love to dry some berries and add them. I've also got cocoa butter I could make into white chocolate.

Doesn't sound like the same thing at all, other than they both have they both have the word fiber in the name.

The reason it works for quest bars is the texture of the stuff when you combine it with protein.

How is your gut handling the isomalt? I thought that was as irritating as maltitol, if not more so.

I guess I'm not quite sure what this is then...FiberFit comes (came) in both liquid and powder form--frutco-oligosaccharide, cellulose and sucralose. I'm just trying to figure out what the ingredients in the one you used for your "Quest" bars.

Maybe I'm being dense but for the life of me, I find nutritional data but can't seem to figure out what it is

Ingredients: Purified water, soluble fiber, sucralose, gluconic acid, guar gum, Irish moss. Preserved with less than 1/10th of 1% potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate.

I thought the purpose of fiberfit was to provide a liquid splenda when none was available.

Sorry! Didn't see this had updates.

IMO -- Some modified form of inulin. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isomaltooligosaccharide

My gut has surprisingly not had any issues with it. I also take my probiotic when I eat it, or a quest bar. Might as well, since it is good food for the probiotic.

I thought Fiberfit was something else entirely. Haven't really looked into it.

I also got some raw cocoa butter. Going to try to make SF white chocolate.

Here's their brochure: http://vitafiber.myshopify.com/pages/about-us
It says in there up to 45g per day is well tolerated.

Hmm... well, this might be another TGTBT (too good to be true) thing too: http://www.meandmydiabetes.com/2012...-bar-interview/

I'm sorry...I wasn't clear. I should have said what are the ingredients of the product Nancy used for her "Quest" bar.

I know Fiberfit. I have some in my closet--both powder and liquid form.

That's interesting. I'm surprised the guy was willing to talk so openly and to be recorded.

I did my own trial with Quest bars in October. I ate ~1000 calories a day from Quest bars for 3 days (no other food or calories). I gained weight each day. That was the end of the road for me. I wish I had thought to measure blood glucose. Other people have done better with them.

If I'm going to get fatter it'll be on something much tastier than Quest bars.

I ordered a sample box because people on another forum were saying good things about them and I was also disappointed. Taste, texture. Nothing works for me.

Years ago I went on a doctor-run LC diet which used bars to help people get into ketosis and I still order them by mail when I can find them. My favorite is the Cinnamon Oatmeal Raisin Bar. I don't want to get into forum trouble by posting a link, but the box contains 7 bars and one site which has a variety to choose from is called New Lifestyle Diet. I'm sure all these bars come from the same distributor, but I don't have my boxes any more.

A "Quest Bar" recipe from Judy Barnes Baker, info for sourcing the new sweeteners, and a basic cookie recipe with two ingredients.
