Default Vegetarian Atkins?

[MODS - feel free to move this to the Vegetarian Low Carb area - I posted here before I found that section of the site!!!]

This month, I decided to try going vegetarian, but otherwise still abiding by the low-carb Atkins approach.

Now, I haven't weighed in yet, as I only weigh on the first of the month.

I feel good. I eat lots of eggs, salads, take some whey protein in the form of shakes.

Question - anyone tried this twist on Atkins? (Yeah, I know it really is a "strech" to call it Atkins, but that's where I am coming from.)

Hi tmatrocks!

I'm not sure how many people are doing veg. Atkins, but I definitely want to cut down on the amount of meat and chicken I eat.

I did vegetarian for a year, and all that soy caused a lot of health problems for me.

I just today found a product called QUORN (say it 'kworn'). Here is a link to their website - Link

I really like how I feel eating more veg. My concern was how to get enough protein, if I'm not eating soy.

Beans have some protein, but also carbs, and the fiber (or something) in them makes it harder for the body to absorb the protein, or so I've heard. I haven't researched that for myself, yet.

I also have to watch my cholesterol. The saturated fat in the meat and chicken really gets to me.

So, Quorn is my next interest. I'm planning fish for dinner tonight, but I'm definitely going to find some Quorn this weekend and give it a try.

If you watch your carbs, you can call it Atkins!

And, BTW, GREAT job so far with your weight loss! You must feel fantastic!

Best wishes!
Barb
