Default Impact on blood sugar

Please bear with me. I am not sure I will do a great job at asking this question.

I had a thought today when I tested my bg.

premeal 82
1 hour postmeal 100

That is an 18 point rise.

Even though my bg was at 100 (which isn't terrible) wouldn't this 18 point rise be bad if I had started at 100 or more before I ate?

This, to me, would seem to be important. It suggests that I can't rely solely on my post meal reading to determine which foods to eat but on the amount of points that my bg goes up after eating a food.

Does this make sense? Am I overthinking this?
