Default LowCarb Energy Magazine coming to the UK

Have just bought the August edition of Good Health magazine, which also contains a low carb recipes supplement courtesy of LowCarb Energy, the US low carb magazine. Anyway, there is a full page ad for a UK version of LowCarb Energy magazine which is about to be launched in the UK. It doesn't actually say when, just that it's coming to the UK soon.

I write for the online version of the magazine and my "mole" (ie, my editor ) says that it goes on sale today and could be found anywhere that magazines are sold. She suggests try Sainsbury's!

Well I have just come home with a copy of Low Carb Energy Magazine which I bought (finally) from Smiths. I looked in Waitrose with no luck, but Smiths has such a huge range of magazines, I think I would have been surprised not to see it there. There were plenty there - on a higher shelf at eye level and very easy to spot.

The Magazine costs £2.50 but has approx 115 pages - all glossy and full colour. There is plenty to read - so much that I hardly no where to begin! As its the first proper newsstand magazine I have ever seen to address the low carb lifestyle, my initial reaction is to devour it greedily rather like I would have eaten a Mars Bar in the olden days! But I must remember to make time to do other things this weekend! ;-)

It's published in the UK, based in Essex, although I think that many of the contributors are American. Flicking through it, I see the recipes and advice have all been tailored to UK values - changing cups to grams etc, although I do notice a few little glitches - like telling us not to use fresh, not canned pumpkin in a recipe! Has anybody ever seen canned pumpkin for sale in England?!? Also canned beef broth ... that may be available here, but I think most of us would use an oxo cube.

There is so much in it, that it's too much to mention here. So if you're curiosity is piqued, I'd recommend you go out and buy a copy, if only for the frisson of buying a mainstream glossy magazine which treats low carb as an acceptable lifestyle!

I got my copy of the magazine in Sainsbury's today

It will be interesting to see the reaction to this magazine in the UK - especially as the first edition is very 'Americanised', with most of the articles written by contributors from the US. Also, there are a number of products mentioned that are not available here in the UK - fresh low carb milk and ice cream, for example.

Despite this, it's really good to see a 'mainstream' low carb magazine on sale in the UK, and I hope it is a success

I bought my copy in Morrisons this morning so it's obviously got good coverage, I was planning a special trip to W H Smiths but while doing my normal food shoping there was the magazine, makes me feel almost main stream!
I've read about half so far and must say that having pictures of the recipes is a real help and the number of adverts for low carb suppliers means I've plenty of places to try if I want any 'specialist' ingredients.
It's just really nice to sit down with a magazine that applies to me and my eating plan.

I think a trip to Sainsbury tomorrow is in order. Hey Demi - maybe we should do another raiding Sainsburys shopping trip? I'll stand you a Starbucks.

I got it yesterday in - of all places - my local newsagent Maybe there's hope for South London yet So far it hasn't told me anything I didn't already know, but it's really nice to read a health magazine without having to feel on the defensive every second

Got hold of a copy in Morrisons. It's quite good, lots of adverts for 'frankenfood' however, which are a bit tempting!
What does anyone make of the advert on page 47 for Carb Shuutle. I went on the website and this is what its got in it:
Per serving:
Biotin 500mcg
R-Alpha Lipoic Acid 100mg
Proprietary blend 5000mcg
(Phaseolus vulgaris (white kidney bean extract), gymnema sylvestre (leaf), cayenne (fruit))

Other ingredients;
Gelatin, Rice Powder, Magnesium Stearate

Take 1 capsule for every 30g of carbohydrates ingested, prior to eating. Do not exceed 6 capsules per day

Anyone ever heard of it or know what effects it has? It says it retrains the sugar receptors and therefore controls how much fat your body makes from carbohydrates. How does it retrain the receptors? And just how much does this help?

Jay
