I think at Waitrose when you first try out the self-scanning, you get two or three "random" checks within the first few weeks. Then if you haven't nicked anything you don't get checked again for ages. I suppose for people who nicked things they might have "given them the benefit of the doubt" the first or even second time but made sure to increase the frequency of "random" checks. That's my guess anyway.

Now there are no service jobs. No gas statin jobs, no grocery(that used to be a skilled(and union) job,McD's is trying out a kiosk to order-cut the staff down. No starter work at all and the tech jobs got exported to India.

Well, yeah. Half the time I'm at Waitrose I still need a human to do the checkout for me, either because of problems with the machines or because I need cash back, or some other thing.

yes at the end of the day companies will always need humans, at the end of the day a computer can only do what it programmed to do by humans, and when it goes wrong who fixes it humans!!

I use Tesco for my main weekly "big" shop, but pop into Iceland (round the corner from where I live, open until 2200) during the week as necessary for the odd item. Iceland also do a nice selection of hard cheese at 3 packets for £2

Unfortunately we don't have either Asda or Morrissons round here, or I'd be there like a shot There is a Lidl within a reasonable distance, but it is very much "take your chance and spend the afternoon" given the lack of trolleys and enormous queues at the check-out I gird myself up to go there once in a blue moon to stock up on tins of salmon and mackrel, plus various excellent frozen meats.

Nowhere have I found any specifically low-carb products Although I would like to congratulate Superdrug on selling Splenda at 20p cheaper than Tesco

I clicked other - get most of my shop from Budgens - the lack of choice means I spend less! But I do use Waitrose and M & S near work sometimes. And Sainsbury's or Tesco if they happen to be convenient.
