Default Soy Milk

So my sister was raving about soy milk the other day, so I decided to investigate an LC version. I bought a container of soy milk and it said 4 carbs, 2 fibre for 1 cup. It is an unsweetened one (it will probably taste gross, but I will mix it with decaf or add a splenda packet).

My question is this-- have you guys tried Soy Milk on Atkins? Did it help or harm your results? Let me know what you think.

I often use unsweetened soy milk....generally just in recipes, smoothies and the like. Never had a problem with it myself....though people with thyroid troubles should avoid large amounts of soy products.

Great! I will go ahead and have a cup once in awhile.

Luke-- why shouldn't ppl with thyroid problems eat soy? I've had my thyroid checked before (and it was fine) but I worry about it sometimes.

Isoflavones in soy can interfere with the thyroid gland's ability to take up iodine for making thyroid hormones.

Have a read through this article by Kathleen DesMaisons, author of Potatoes Not Prozac, and Your Last Diet .. Sorting Out the Soy Story. She provides sound unbiased research both for and against soy.

The recommendation is to limit your consumption of soy products to no more than one serving per day. So .. if you have a glass of soymilk for breakfast, you shouldn't have some other soy food again that same day. No tofu, tempeh, soy burger, tvp, soy ice cream, protein shakes etc that have soy in them.

So what about if one supplements with iodine then? Does that get around it? I used to eat only organic meat but am now pescetarian. I am interested in this issue since now I usually have soy daily. Whereas when I ate meat I avoided soy.

i use the silk unsweetened and the soy slender sugar free vanilla and chocolate. and they are actually quite yummy..... dont need to blacket the taste with anything. you could also try using a SF davinci syrup.... those add nice flavor to soy milk also -=rubs tummy=-
