Nancy my free t's showed the distinct drop in conversion from T4 to T3 in my labs. It binds conversion in the bloodstream.

A lowcarb WOL didn't do it all for me either...I have to have my T3 or I just am not worth getting up in the morning...and I have to work out several times a week.

How about the 7-keto he talked about on the same show? Or the Saffron extract?

I just looked on http://www.bestpricenutrition.com and it has Dr. Oz's name all over these things! He must be making money off of it. His credibility just tanked in my book.

Hi Cerridwen - seems they got off the topic you asked about - Coleus forskohlii. I was - almost 8 years ago - into losing weight with any magic pill. The best was Brad King - for me. But after about a year, that didn't work as well and I found a product with forskohlii. I tried it, because at that poiont I was worn out from all the weight loss - even if I had about 30 more pds to go, I really didn't notice the forskohlii much help. I don't think it was something that was of much help for me. I hope this gives you a bit of information. Good luck on your journey.

Forgot to add............. there are no magic pills!!!! At least for me. I did a lot to lose the weight besides taking Brad's stuff. And in the end, I had major burn out and exhaustion. I eventually gain some of the weight back, and now learning to lose the weight in a healthier manner. I'm not interested in going back to those things I tried before. Just healthy foods. And prefer low carb.

Ok...I had to say though, cuz so MANY are told this too (and by that same 'Dr. on TV') that a lot of people who are trying to lose weight are told that one of the supplements they should take is L Carnitine.

L Carnitine (carnatine) is given to SLOW a hyperthyroid...so, in effect, the tests show that it slows thyroid, and suppresses T4 to T3 conversion, which, in turn, slow metabolism..which is what um...slows weightloss.

There I was, in the early days of my lowcarbing lifestyle, taking all these supplements and I was actually not doing too well, until my friend (who just happens to be an endocrinologist...and yes, we're still friends, ha ha) says 'why are you trying to slow your thyroid when you are HYPOthyroid and taking replacement? Isn't that a little redundant?'

LOL No, it's a LOT redundant!

Be wary of whatever a TV personality tells you in the way of diets, particularly when that personality is in it for the ratings. If the studies don't have at LEAST 1000 or more people with both female and males in the study..and if they weren't studied over a period of at least five YEARS than be wary (this is my honest opinion of studies, after having been personally involved in seven of them medically).

You've got to know that Dr. Oz is making money off of these things. His show has almost become an infomercial for "health foods" and herbal suppliments. Did you see the show where he showed his kitchen? When he opened his suppliment cabinet, I almost died of shock. His supplement cabinet was bigger than my pantry. I was thinking--how in the world does he have time to take all those pills and how does he even remember what each one does.

I am definitely not a fan of OZ or his smiling daughter.

Why would that surprise you? Dr Oz is a walking commercial for products on his show. He always names them by name and says you need to take them--even down to chips and snack foods. You know he is getting paid for all those spots just like movies get paid for showing someone drinking a Coke.
