Default Fish Oil and Soy?

I've been reading how fish oil, specifically Omega-3, is good for you.
And I've been reading how soy is bad for you.
So it surprised me today when I was at the store looking at the labels on fish oil and discovered that they all have soy listed in the ingredients.
Is there a fish oil out there that doesn't have soy in it?
Is the amount of soy so small that I shouldn't be concerned?
I'm confused.

You must not be looking at fish oil supplements.A fish oil supplement is pure fish oil.Sounds like MAYBE your looking at some type of asian cooking oil?

Soybean oil is a very common ingredient in fish oil supplements. For that matter, it's used an ingredient in many oil-based supplements. The brand I'm using currently lists it as the last ingredient, whereas the brand I used previously had it as the first ingredient.

I'm sure there are brands available somewhere that don't include soybean oil, but in my area, they're as rare as commercial mayo that doesn't have either soybean oil or canola oil. I've never managed to find either product.

Soybean oil is everywhere, almost as bad as HFCS.

it is interesting that my Nature's Answer fish oil has no soy but the CLO say 'contains soy' yet it is not listed as an ingredient.

i previously used Carlson's but don't have any more so can't check the label.

check out the liquid varieties.

Not that I would recommend it, but the oil isn't the worst thing about soy in my opinion. Soybean oil's omega-6 ratio is lower than corn oil, for example. I can't remember if the phytoestrogens turn up in the oil, but the phytates, oxalates, enzyme inhibitors and harmful proteins are in other parts of the beans.

But I agree - it's maddening that they put it in everything.

Soy isn't listed on any of the several brands I buy. However, if Vitamin E is listed (often as a preservative) I tend to assume it's from soybean oil. That negligible amount of oil doesn't concern me personally... I don't know whether that's what you're seeing listed or what other reason it would be in fish oil.

Mercola rants and rages about soy yet sells Vitamin E supplements derived from soybean oil on his website. It's a bit different than chowing down chunks of tofu.

Don't know if it helps (I'm in Canada) but right now I have Wild Pacific Salmon Oil made by Natural Factors in BC. Soy not listed but Vitamin E is. The other ingredients are the salmon oil + gelatin and glycerin (the capsule).

I think soy is used in fish oil because it is a source of vit. E and E is often used to keep things from going rancid.

Soy is evil. Soy is in everything as is corn. I'm allergic to both. But I wouldn't eat them anyway.

If you have a decent sized piece of fresh salmon once a week and some other fish at another time it will go a long way towards satisfying your omega three requirements.

Hmm... not if you take the amount recommend by Dr. Davis. Like a minimum of 1,000g of DHA + EPA combined.
