"Fat burns in the flame of carbohydrate" -- university biochemistry class

I don't think I understand what this means. Are they saying your body will not burn fat unless it has carbohydrates to stoke the fire?

it seems like a nonsense quote, since there isn't actually any flame or burning going on, but what am I missing?

I think the origin of the phrase goes back to the discovery of ketones appearing on a fast or a low carbohydrate/ketogenic diet. They used to call these "ashes," a residue that couldn't be burned without the presence of carbohydrate. A problem with this idea is that most of the ketones we produce when starved of glucose are ultimately burned for energy elsewhere in the body.

I think that's the point. It's fake news. Nonsense.

Somebody said zero carb was hard. Assuming that we are calling "animal products" zero carb, I think it is easy (this means that we are accepting eggs, yogurt, cheese, organ meats and other animal sources of food as zero carb). No worry about too much broccoli possibly triggering me (not likely, but possible) or straying into the slippery slope of other "low carb foods" that could go too far. Honestly the biggest problem I have going zero carb is my wife. She just can't get it through her head that I don't need vegetables for nutrients. *shrug*

Thats what I thought, but sometimes a metaphor, or is it an analogy, isn't obvious as to the point it is making.

It depends on the person and biochemical pathways. Too complicate to explain it here.
Most food even meat contains trace of carb.

Human body can make carb(glucose and lactose).

We burn fat from your body fat storage or fat in the blood stream(food intake) when we are in lipogenesis-less. In certain pathways, some carb does help fat burning, but don't bet on it.

In theory, when a low carb person consumes carb, it goes to burning first.
Next, excess carb will go to glycogen. If you have lots of muscle, it will get you 2 to 10+ lbs of glycogen(if you do not consume excess fat at the same time.)

So go back to zero carb will burn up your glycogen in 1 to 3 days.

Glycogen acts like a safety buffer.

Is it this one? It's in the War Zone, but I don't think there's that much War in it.
