I don't think that I could do the zero carb thing indefinitely even though it does sound like it produces good results. I just don't have that sort of discipline.

It's a funny thing. Some people really do keep falling off, and I suspect it's either social/family pressure (after two years some of my friends still get totally weirded out that I won't eat the veggies), or they really do need, for some reason, some carbs in their diet (I don't know why that would be, but some people swear they develop health issues, and adding carbs back in seems to solve them).

I, on the other hand, and many other long-term ZCers, say that one of the greatest things about ZC is the utter lack of need for willpower. When I was eating veggies, I was still fighting raging carb cravings. And the two times I snuck them back in as an "experiment," shazam! Carb cravings again. But with just meat, there are no cravings. Just easy-peasy eating when hungry, and stopping when full. This is the only time in my life I've felt like I've had a normal appetite, and didn't have to argue with myself over food all the time.

P.S. Hi, SilverEm!

Wow--interesting! And here I thought my carb tolerance was crazy-low!

I tried doing "zero carb" back when I first did Atkins, and while it did speed up weight loss I found that I can only make it about three days, tops, before I start longing for a salad again. I don't eat huge amounts of veggies, but I love the flavors and textures and miss them when they're not a regular part of my diet. Plus, they make such wonderful conveyances for large quantities of homemade bleu cheese dressing...

My experience is quite similar. I eat herbs, but very rarely veggies. They tend to trigger carb cravings. I am actually very low carb, not ZC, as I eat liver, brains, egg yolks, cream, and a few plants. I don't do well on muscle meat and fat alone.

I so appreciate how easy my WOE is, the peace of mind it gives me, and how simple it is to stay slender. I thoroughly enjoy my food plan and that I don't have to bother with so much shopping, cooking, cleaning, organizing, etc. Mrs. Stefansson's preface in Dr. MacKarness' book really inspired me.

What a thread! Thanks everyone for contributing. Just read about Bear, having followed Nora Gedgaudas' suggestions previously.

Just remember, don't make anything important and keep the mood up! Cheers!

Hello, I am doing zero carb. I have lost 100 pounds since last March. The more I ate the faster I lost. Every time I try to walk up the rungs of the ladder I start to gain. I am at a loss as to know what to do. It is a good thing for me to see others that have the same issues.

Thanks for resurrecting this, I missed it the first time 'round. I'm doing VLC <5/day, sticking to meat (incl organs) and eggs. Might add cream and/or cheese later. I'm at 218 and want to go to my college graduation in mid-May NOT looking like a dirigible.

Could you give the title and ISBN of this book. I didn't know he had a book prior to 1972 and I would be interested in purchasing it.
