Default Starting Sugarbusters

I sort of remember the rules of Sugarbusters *I think* and I am starting it on Monday. I will not be able to get a hold of the book for another two weeks. So if anyone could give me a quick rundown of it, it would be much appreciated! By the way what breads are legal?

Hello LBDropper!

Our Sugar Busters Forum here is thriving, but it's not the most active forum. Have you had a chance to look at all the threads posted in the Sugar Busters Forum yet? One of them is a synopsis that has been started on the Sugar Busters book.

I'm sure someone will be able to answer your question shortly.

Karen

Default I'm so sorry ...

Somehow I missed your post.

Here's the basics ---
Limit Starchy Carbs to 2-3 per day during weight loss phase. (Brown Rice, Oatmeal, Sweet Potatoes, Bread, Pasta)

Only eat:
Whole grains
Lean Meats & Poultry
Low GI veggies
Fruit
Dairy

Fruit has a more beneficial affect on insulin levels and digestion if it is eaten alone.

Portion Control: Fill your plate once.

2-3 g of carbs a day? or 2-3 servings of carbs that are breads and rice? I will be eating oatmeal in the morning and 2 slices of wheat bread a day the rest will be veggies, cheese, fruits

Default sorry I wasn't clear ..

2-3 servings of starchy carbs not grams.

Many folks count a serving as 1/2 cup oatmeal, brown rice or ww pasta; 1 slice of bread; 1/2 sweet potato

Make sure that you get an adequate amount of protein.

Default fruit...

LB Dropper -

Good luck on the Sugar Busters plan! I started this plan a month ago, and I think I was taking in too many legal carbs, so am doing more Atkins now... .but it was great to have the variety of foods!

If you like fruit, just remember like Molly said, it is best not to eat it with other food. From the book, pp246; "Fruit ideally should be consumed by itself as a snack to receive the best benefit of lower insulin secretion after a meal. Also, many people have improved digestion by consuming fruit thirty minutes before or two hours after a meal."

Hope that helps....

Default foods to avoid...

LB Dropper -

Just skimming my book, didn't know if you knew the foods to avoid, if not here's the list:

Potatoes (white or red)
White Rice
Corn (incl. popcorn, cornbread, and corn meal)
Beets
White Bread
All Refined Sugar
Other refined white products

the book also mentions carrots, but I think I read on this forum that the verdict was changed on that one.... so, you may want to look that one up.

Good luck !

From what I've read through the threads I'm doing ok so far and legal but my carbs seem to be high so I guess I'll have to meal plan in advance. I had 42% carbs yesterday.

I weigh in tomorrow morning. I was able to work out two days this week and couldn't the rest because my foot was banged up. But I did follow the diet and then on thursday and friday I messed up eating crackers because I wasn't feeling that well and didn't want to feel worse which it seems I do when I'm sick and eat low carb. So I hope that didn't mess up the weight loss!!! So in 11 hours I will know. My pants *seemed* a little loser or maybe it was just me wanting to think that lol. I'll let you know tomorrow!
