Default How to gain weight on low carb diet?

Hi, whenever I do low-carb I always lose a lot of weight, but I'm underweight as is so I need to gain weight. But I function my best on low carb which is why I want to stick to a low carb diet. Any advice? Thanks x

Try adding more calories to your diet. Fats should do the trick as they're calorie dense. Eat more butter, olive and coconut oils. Cheese is good too. Fattier cuts of meat like ribeye steak, chicken wings, sausages.

If you're eating more calories than you are burning, in theory, you should gain weight.

What do you eat when you're low carb?

How about sticking to a Paleo version of low carb, where you can eat some starchy foods like roots and squashes?

You'll have to eat more protein than fat. That combined with strength training would help build lean mass.

Thanks, I mainly eat green beans, salad greens, basically all low carb vegetables, nuts, ground flaxseed, sunflower seeds, desiccated coconut, lean chicken, and fish.

Root vegetables like say parsnips?

Definitely add some root vegetables! Since gaining weight is not an issue, enjoy those potatoes, beets, sweet potatoes...anything that grows in the ground! Also include gourds...squash, pumpkin, etc. It seems as if you enjoy veggies, so I'm sure you'll enjoy exploring these new foods. I love an assortment of veggies, tossed in olive oil and salt, then roasted.

I understand that if you eat fat along with these higher carb veggies, the weight will stick to you better rather than eating them separately. I don't know if that's true, it's just something that I heard. Can't hurt to try though, and it will sure taste good!

Why lean meat? You need fat! Get bacon, chicken with skin, pork roasts with lots of fat, etc.

Parsnips is one example. But yams (i.e. sweet potatoes), winter squash, potatoes perhaps. Be sure to use a lot of fat on your veggies like butter, bacon drippings, ghee and so on.

Also use nut butters and/or peanut butter. Full fat coconut milk. Coconut oil.

Don't be fat phobic.

Sure, add fruit too. Just don't go nuts with it. Berries are pretty low in sugar. Too much fructose isn't good for you, but people are getting loads of fructose from soda and juices. Whole fruit isn't so bad, IMHO. Especially if your metabolism isn't broken and it doesn't sound like yours is.

You might enjoy reading one of the paleo blogs: http://www.marksdailyapple.com/ (That's the one that springs to mind right now).

Thanks very much is dried fruit a no-no? I find that whenever I eat dried fruit it helps me gain weight but gives me terrible mood swings and irritability..

Well, it's not so great because the sugars are concentrated and all the water is removed, so you can eat a lot of it and then get too much fructose in the process.

Also, pay attention to what your body is saying. If you get mood swings and such, might be best to avoid it, yes?

Fat and protein. Some of the Cordain paleo followers who've lost too much increased fat by adding CO.
All the suggestions here are good. It's just a matter of your sensitivities.
