Look at the contents. If it's food poisoning, something in there will reach out and slap your face and make your stomach twist just by looking at it. Your body will know what did the damage.
For the record, sour cream disintegrates very quickly once it's mixed into food. This time of year in the northern hemisphere, it's not as likely to be mayo unless you left it out for a week. Most commercial mayos have so many preservatives they barely need refrigeration, if you don't double-dip.
If it's flu or a virus, everything will look bad but nothing will particularly attack you.
Of course, if you got it from eating something in public, the news will probably be on the front page of the local section of your newspaper, because the county health department will have heard about it and you will not be alone.
