Default Dumbbells - what and where to buy

I have dumbbells at home (hex type from Walmart) from 5 to 30 pounds (pairs) - but I am already using the 30 pounders and almost ready to go higher! I don't wan't to keep buying more hex dumbbells due to price and space. Should I go with adjustables or short bars with plates? And where can I get a decent deal?

I bought hex dumbbells off of Craigslist, pairs going up to 50lbs, for fairly cheap.

I don't like standard adjustable dumbbells (short bars with plates) because, the ones I've had, the "collars" would start to unscrew while I was using them, allowing the plates to slide.

I see "PowerBlock" dumbbells on craigslist once in awhile. They might be worth a try. They are probably the highest quality adjustables, at least from the reviews I have read.

If you are like me, you might decide that a cheap gym membership is worth not having to buy too much more equipment.
