Default Nitrate free bacon?

If anyone knows what brand of bacon I can buy that is not cured with nitrates please let me know. I spend about 20 minutes yesterday reading all the labels at the store. I can't find any without the nitrates. Are they really that bad? I am dying for some bacon. Or if anyone has any thoughts about this subject lets hear it.
thanks,
Shoshie

You might be best to go to a major grocery store, and ask the meat manager, failing that, seek out a small butcher ( they can be hard to find nowadays). I buy Hertels, but I doubt you can get it there, it's a Vancouver Island Co. AS well, most No/Nitrate bacon Labels will have it very bold as it is their selling feature. Next if you check at a wholesome food store, they should have it but more $$.

Good Luck hope you find it, the flavour is awesome I think

Kathy

You should go and click on the Search word at the top of this page. enter the term "Bacon AND Nitrate". Be sure to click on "Show as Posts". This will show the many threads about bacon & nitrates on this site.

You could try an organic produce store or health food store or an independent butcher shop. You probably won't find it in ordinary grocery stores. That said, they won't stop you from losing weight, but Atkins felt that nitrates were just bad for people.

I just use everyday bacon that you get in the food store. I know Atkins feels that nitrates were just bad for people. But in may case I feel that being overweight is worst for me! Add on to that, I spend enouth money as it is on food, with two adults following Atkins. Then two teenagers onto of that to feed! The money I spend on meat . Any ways, I just drink a lot of water hopefully that helps wash the nitrates out of my system.

Bacon...mmmmmmm

I found bacon at Shop Rite labeled "Organic and Nitrite Free". It needs to be kept in the freezer. Have not tried it yet.
