Default Old grapes/plants

Does anyone know if the fruit off an Ornamental Grapevine (the one I bought just says vitis vinifera) is more .. I don't know how to word it .. original than regular grapes? I'm pretty sure it's not poisonous since I ate one and nothing happened. It was small, black and not sweet at all, with one big seed and more like a little berry than a grape.

I'd like to grow more really old types of fruit/plants, so if anyone knows of things you can eat that have not been hybridized post them here!

Muscadine grapes grow wild where I live. They just seem to pop up all over the edge of the woods and grow in the trees. Even the more developed muscadines you can by are still far closer to the wild than the modern grape varieties sold.

That's really interesting, I did not realize the U.S had wild grapes. I looked them up: they are vitis rotundifolia and have less chromosomes than regular grapes and are not cross-compatible. It seems they are full of potentially valuable phytochemicals, too. I'm going to keep a look out for one of these to buy!
