Default Is the opposite true also?????

When in ketosis, I understand that you are burning body fat for energy.....

So, if you lose weight, are you in ketosis in order to accomplish this?

Putting the same question another way...

Can you lose weight without being in ketosis?

Yes, you can lose weight without being in ketosis. There are many plans that do not require you to be in ketosis to lose weight. Eat Fat, Get Thin is one of them.

To Rosebud: Well, as long as I stayed with my carb level around 30g per day, I did not lose weight, now my carbs are down to about 7g, my calories are still about the same, just down slightly from decreased appetite, not trying to cut calories. My weight started dropping once my carbs dropped below 10g...

How low on carbs do you think a person needs bo be to enter ketosis????

it's all different with different people..i think i need to stay below 25 but some have to be lower than 15 such as yourself...are you sure you stayed long enough on the 20 carbs and gave your body time to readjust to the fuel that it's burning? also, in the atkins book it says if you stop losing just decrease your carbs by five...you don't have to jump incredibly low, but (i know it's a big pain in the butt) but try it for a couple of weeks at different intervals and see if it's working, you may find you really don't need to go as low as 10.

..everyone loses weight at different times of the diet...there's the whooshing effect. where you may be the same weight then one fine day you'll pee alot and there goes 5 pounds or so (happened to me last night).

Yes, it definitely varies from person to person.

How about giving us some of your regular menus? Maybe there will be something there that can be pinpointed as a reason for your failure to lose.

I have some sample menus posted in my journal. In the beginning, my focus was to cut carbs to between 50 & 65. Remember, I am diabetic. I just gradually lowered my carbs and calories. My intention was not to go into ketosis as I was following the "Eat Fat, Get Thin" diet... But, I've lowered my carbs so much that I am probably in ketosis. Tuesday morning I weighed 203, tonight I weighed 198. That's 5 pounds in 3 days. Since the weekend, I reduced my carbs from 20 to 10, then just happened to eat only 7 on Monday, but my calorie total has been the same for about a week or so... I did start drinking more water in the last few days... Other than that, really no changes to explain the weight loss. I guess I could go out and get keto stix, but I'm good for now, just enjoying finally having the weight loss...
